Background: The 4-Stage Balance test is one of the most commonly used tests to assess balance for older adults. Although it is generally accepted that the four positions (including side-by-side (SBSS), semi-tandem (STS), tandem (TS), and single-leg stance (SLS)) in this test are progressively more difficult, there are no studies comparing the balance parameters of the four positions in older adults to prove this result. The purpose of this study is to determine the difficulty of 4 positions in the 4-Stage Balance test and the effect of the dominant and non-dominant lower extremities on static balance among healthy older adults.

Engineering of the catalysts' structural stability and electronic structure could enable high-throughput H production over electrocatalytic water splitting. Herein, a double-shell interlayer confinement strategy is proposed to modulate the spatial position of Ru nanoparticles in hollow carbon nanoreactors for achieving tunable sizes and electronic structures toward enhanced H evolution. Specifically, the Ru can be anchored in either the inner layer (Ru-DSC-I) or the external shell (Ru-DSC-E) of double-shell nanoreactors, and the size of Ru is reduced from 2.

Mass transfer is critical in catalytic processes, especially when the reactions are facilitated by nanostructured catalysts. Strong efforts have been devoted to improving the efficacy and quantity of active sites, but often, mass transfer has not been well studied. Herein, we demonstrate the importance of mass transfer in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) by tailoring the pore sizes.

Background: Intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is an effective stimulus for long-term potentiation (LTP)-like plasticity. However, iTBS-induced effects varied greatly between individuals. Ample evidence suggested that an initial decrease in local γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) or enhancement in -methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) facilitation neurotransmission is of vital importance for allowing LTP-like plasticity to occur.

Gas-involving electrocatalytic reactions are of critical importance in the development of carbon-neutral energy technologies. However, the catalytic performance is always limited by the unsatisfactory diffusion properties of reactants as well as products. In spite of significant advances in catalyst design, the development of mesoscale mass diffusion and process intensification is still challenging due to the lack of material platforms, synthesis methods, and mechanism understanding.

Nitrogen-doped nanocarbons are widely used as supports for metal-heterogeneous catalytic conversions. When nitrogen-doped nanocarbon supports are used to disperse metallic nanoparticles (MNPs), the nitrogen dopant can enhance MNPs electron density to reach higher catalytic activity and promote MNPs stability through anchoring effects. However, the precise identification of active nitrogen species between N-dopants and reactants is rarely reported.

Precisely regulating the electronic structures of metal active species is highly desirable for electrocatalysis. However, carbon with inert surface provide weak metal-support interaction, which is insufficient to modulate the electronic structures of metal nanoparticles. Herein, we propose a new method to control the electrocatalytic behavior of supported metal nanoparticles by dispersing single metal atoms on an O-doped graphene.

The phenotypic switch in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) mediates immunity escape of cancer. However, the underlying mechanisms in the TAM phenotypic switch have not been systematically elucidated. In this study, long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)-Xist, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP)α, and Kruppel-like factor 6 (KLF6) were upregulated, whereas microRNA (miR)-101 was downregulated in M1 macrophages-type (M1).

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are responsible for the migration and recurrence of cancer progression. Small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) play important roles in tumor development. However, how snoRNAs contribute to the regulation of the stemness of ovarian CSCs (OCSCs) remains unclear.

Electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) over nonprecious-metal and single-atom catalysts has received increasing attention as a sustainable strategy to synthesize ammonia. However, the atomic-scale regulation of such active sites for NRR catalysis remains challenging because of the large distance between them, which significantly weakens their cooperation. Herein, the utilization of regular surface cavities with unique microenvironment on graphitic carbon nitride as "subnano reactors" to precisely confine multiple Fe and Cu atoms for NRR electrocatalysis is reported.

Nanoreactors with hollow structures have attracted great interest in catalysis research due to their void-confinement effects. However, the challenge in unambiguously unraveling these confinement effects is to decouple them from other factors affecting catalysis. Here, we synthesize a pair of hollow carbon sphere (HCS) nanoreactors with presynthesized PdCu nanoparticles encapsulated inside of HCS (PdCu@HCS) and supported outside of HCS (PdCu/HCS), respectively, while keeping other structural features the same.

The electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is a promising energy-efficient and low-emission alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process. Usually, the competing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the reaction barrier of ambient electrochemical NRR are significant challenges, making a simultaneous high NH formation rate and high Faradic efficiency (FE) difficult. To give effective NRR electrocatalysis and suppressed HER, the surface atomic structure of W O , which has exposed active W sites and weak binding for H , is doped with Fe.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the most malignant tumor types worldwide. Our objective was to identify a genetic signature that could predict the prognosis of patients with LUAD. We extracted gene data sets from The Cancer Genome Atlas and obtained differentially expressed genes that were highly expressed at every stage.

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO) has attracted considerable attention as a means of maintaining the carbon cycle. This process still suffers from poor performance, including low faradaic efficiencies and high overpotential. Herein, we attempted to use coordination number as a control parameter to improve the electrocatalytic performance of metal species that have previously been thought to have no CO reduction activity.

Electrochemical reduction of CO to value-added products is an important and challenging reaction for sustainable energy study. Herein, bismuth nanosheets with thickness of around 10 nm were prepared through the electrochemical reduction of Bi . Ultrathin Bi nanosheets with numerous low-coordination sites can efficiently reduce CO to formate in aqueous solution.

The conversion efficiency and product selectivity of the electroreduction of carbon dioxide have been largely limited by the low CO solubility in aqueous solution. To relieve this problem, Cu(BTC) (Cu-MOF) as CO capture agent was introduced into a carbon paper based gas diffusion electrode (GDE) in this study. The faradaic efficiencies (FEs) of CH on GDE with Cu-MOF weight ratio in the range of 7.

Pd-doped propyl sulfonic acid-functionalized hollow nanospheres proved to be efficient bifunctionalized catalysts for the one-pot synthesis of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) from acetone and hydrogen in liquid phase. These hollow nanospheres exhibited a higher activity than their bulk mesoporous counterparts (SBA-15 or FDU-12), mainly due to the short diffusion resistance of hollow nanospheres. Hollow nanospheres with silica frameworks showed higher activity and selectivity for MIBK than those with ethane-bridged frameworks, suggesting that hollow nanospheres with hydrophilic surface properties favor the formation of MIBK.
