Direct Determination of the Structure of Single Biopolymer Molecules Using Nanopore Sequencing.

This review highlights operational principles, features, and modern aspects of the development of third-generation sequencing technology of biopolymers focusing on the nucleic acids analysis, namely the nanopore sequencing system. Basics of the method and technical solutions used for its realization are considered, from the first works showing the possibility of creation of these systems to the easy-to-handle procedure developed by Oxford Nanopore Technologies company. Moreover, this review focuses on applications, which were developed and realized using equipment developed by the Oxford Nanopore Technologies, including assembly of whole genomes, methagenomics, direct analysis of the presence of modified bases.

Whole-genome sequence of ET2 strain, isolated from the roots of leafless orchid, constitutes a single circular chromosome of 3,604,840 bp (69.44% G + C content). BLAST+-based average nucleotide identity (ANIb) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values indicate that ET2 may be a novel species.

Nanopore sequencing (ONT) is a new and rapidly developing method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA and RNA. It serves the ability to obtain long reads of thousands of nucleotides without assembly and amplification during sequencing compared to next-generation sequencing. Nanopore sequencing can help for determination of genetic changes leading to antibiotics resistance.

DNA Intercalators Inhibit Eukaryotic Ribosomal RNA Synthesis by Impairing the Initiation of Transcription.

In eukaryotes, ribosome biogenesis is driven by the synthesis of the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) by RNA polymerase I (Pol-I) and is tightly linked to cell growth and proliferation. The 3D-structure of the rDNA promoter plays an important, yet not fully understood role in regulating rRNA synthesis. We hypothesized that DNA intercalators/groove binders could affect this structure and disrupt rRNA transcription.

Internet users worldwide often experience problems related to their Internet use, and although culture has an important influence over how people communicate, what they value, and therefore how they use the Internet, little cross-cultural research on the subject of problematic Internet use has been carried out. The Internet Addiction Test (IAT), the most common measurement tool for this purpose, has been used in various countries. In this study we compared and analyzed the cross-cultural results found in the most recent research on the IAT factor analysis.

Plasticity control of poly(vinyl alcohol)-graphene oxide nanocomposites.

Composite films containing poly(vinyl alcohol) filled with different amounts of graphene oxide (2 and 4 wt%) were prepared by the solution casting technique, and the mechanical properties of the resulting materials were modified with different amounts of glycerol as a plasticizer. Two series of pure poly(vinyl alcohol) and graphene oxide-loaded films with fixed amounts of water were used for modification with glycerol, since water can also serve as a plasticizer for poly(vinyl alcohol). The morphology and physical properties of the plasticized and non-plasticized composites were studied; tensile tests were performed to investigate and compare their mechanical properties.

Aim - to assess the nature and three-year dynamics of structural and functional changes in the cardiovascular system in relation to the levels of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants in chronic coronary heart disease in men. The study included 246 men aged 48 to 65 years (mean age 58 years (53,0; 63,0)) with stable form of ischemic heart disease - angina FC II-III CHF I-III FC (NYHA), observed during 2012-2015. To assess the level of oxidative stress in all patients by ELISA was determined by lipid peroxide, total antioxidant status (CCA) and levels of non-enzymatic antioxidant bilirubin (BR).

Aims In light of the rise in research on technological addictions and smartphone addiction in particular, the aim of this paper was to review the relevant literature on the topic of smartphone addiction and determine whether this disorder exists or if it does not adequately satisfy the criteria for addiction. Methods We reviewed quantitative and qualitative studies on smartphone addiction and analyzed their methods and conclusions to make a determination on the suitability of the diagnosis "addiction" to excessive and problematic smartphone use. Results Although the majority of research in the field declares that smartphones are addictive or takes the existence of smartphone addiction as granted, we did not find sufficient support from the addiction perspective to confirm the existence of smartphone addiction at this time.

The modern equipment allows to carry out coordination training in the static position and also during walking.

[The laryngeal condition in the patients presenting with euthyroid multinodular goiter as evaluated by direct laryngoscopy].

The objective of the present study was to improve diagnostics of disturbances in the laryngeal condition of the patients presenting with euthyroid multinodular goiter with special reference to the condition of the upper respiratory passages. The preoperative characteristic of 398 patients included the description of the predominant clinical syndrome (the neoplastic and compressive variants) and specification of the morphological type of the disease to promote the decrease of operative activity with respect to colloidal proliferative goiter. Direct laryngoscopy was employed in addition to the traditional diagnostic techniques during both the surgical operation and the follow-up observation.

Background: The goals of the present work were to retrieve the scientific articles published on addiction to the Internet, video games, and cell phones and to analyze the pattern of publications in this area (who is doing the research, when and where it is taking place, and in which journals it is being published), to determine the research being conducted as well as to document geographical trends in publication over time in three types of technological addictions: Internet, cell phones, and video games.

Methods: Articles indexed in PubMed and PsycINFO between 2006 and 2010 related to the pathological use of Internet, cell phones, and video games were retrieved. Search results were reviewed to eliminate articles that were not relevant or were duplicates.
