We discovered an unusual triflic acid-promoted oligomerization of arabinofuranosides during glycosylation of the primary hydroxy group of α-(1 → 5)-linked tetraarabinofuranoside bearing 4-(2-chloroethoxy)phenyl aglycone with α-(1 → 5), β-(1 → 2)-linked tetraarabinofuranoside containing N-phenyltrifluoroacetimidoyl leaving group, which led to octa-, dodeca- and hexadecaarabinofuranosides. The possible mechanism of triflic acid-promoted oligomerization was proposed. The choice of promoter was found to be a critical factor for the discovered oligomerization of arabinofuranosides.

The rational design of cyclin-dependent protein kinase (CDK) inhibitors presumes the development of approaches for accurate prediction of selectivity and the activity of small molecular weight anticancer drug candidates. Aiming at attenuation of general toxicity of low selectivity compounds, we herein explored the new chemotype of imidazole-4-N-acetamide substituted derivatives of the pan-CDK inhibitor PHA-793887. Allozymes present several classical examples of divergent selection, including the variation in the cytosolic aspartate aminotransferase (AAT) in the intertidal snails Littorina saxatilis. AAT is a part of the asparate-malate shuttle, in the interidal molluscs involved in the anaerobic respiration during desiccation. Previous allozyme studies reported the sharp gradient in the frequencies of the AATand the AAT alleles between the low and high shores in the Northern Europe and the differences in their enzymatic activity, supporting the role of AAT in adaptation to desiccation.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, clinical, radiological, and histopathological studies have provided evidence that organizing pneumonia is a possible consequence of the SARS-CoV2 infection. This post-COVID-19 organizing pneumonia (PCOP) causes persisting dyspnea, impaired pulmonary function, and produces radiological abnormalities for at least 5 weeks after onset of symptoms. While most patients with PCOP recover within a year after acute COVID-19, 5-25% of cases need specialized treatment.

Finding convenient ways for the stereoselective α-sialylation is important due to the high practical significance of α-sialic acid-containing glycans and neoglycoconjugates. It was proposed that sialylation stereoselectivity is determined by the structure of the sialyl cation (also known in biochemistry as "sialosyl cation"), a supposed intermediate in this reaction. Recently, reactions of allylidenhydrazones with tetracyanoethylene were found to lead to cyclobutanes-products of usually unfavorable (2 + 2) cycloaddition. Herein we computationally demonstrate that the (4 + 2) product of this reaction is severely destabilized by incomplete C-N bond formation, arising from a complex interplay of substituent electronic effects. We show how destabilization of a single bond in the front-runner product averts its formation and redirects chemical reaction toward an uncharacteristic pathway.

Background: Dravet syndrome (DS) is the most severe form of Generalized Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures plus (GEFS+) syndrome with a clear genetic component in 85% of the cases. Six empirical force fields were tested for applicability to calculations for automated carbohydrate database filling. They were probed on eleven disaccharide molecules containing representative structural features from widespread classes of carbohydrates.
