A new and diverse family of pyrene derivatives was synthesised palladium-catalysed C-H -arylation of pyrene-1-carboxylic acid. The strategy affords easy access to a broad scope of 2-substituted and 1,2-disubstituted pyrenes. The C1-substituent can be easily transformed into carboxylic acid, iodide, alkynyl, aryl or alkyl functionalities.

Effect of bio-augmentation of Bacillus spp in biofloc on growth, survival and immunity in Indian white shrimp Penaeus indicus was evaluated. Background: Sleep disturbances are considered one of the significant comorbidities of autism; they negatively impact the quality of life of children with autism as well as their parents or caregivers. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of sleep disturbances in Indian male children diagnosed with autism and examine the association of lifestyle behaviors and socio-demographic characteristics with sleep problems.

Methods: The present cross-sectional study was conducted in Bhubaneswar city in the year 2018, involving mothers of 100 male children with autism aged 2-6 years.

Association of Postfungal Keratitis Corneal Scar Features With Visual Acuity.

Importance: Corneal opacity is a leading cause of visual impairment worldwide; however, the specific features of corneal scars, which decrease visual acuity, have not been well characterized.

Objective: To investigate which features of a postfungal keratitis corneal scar contribute to decreased visual acuity after an episode of infectious keratitis and evaluate whether any corneal features may be used as outcomes for clinical trials.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In this ancillary, prospective cross-sectional study, a subset of study participants treated for fungal keratitis (n = 71) as part of the Mycotic Ulcer Treatment Trial I (MUTT I) underwent best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) and best contact lens-corrected visual acuity examination, Scheimpflug imaging, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography at a referral hospital in India approximately 2 years after enrollment.

Isolation, characterization and growth kinetics of phenol hyper-tolerant bacteria from sewage-fed aquaculture system.

Pollution of aquatic resources is increasing day-by-day, and phenolic compounds are common pollutants negatively impacting aquatic biodiversity and production. This study aimed at isolation of phenol hyper-tolerant bacteria from polluted aquaculture resource so that they might be useful in aquaculture systems. Four phenol hyper-tolerant bacterial strains were isolated from sewage fed East Kolkata Wetlands, a Ramsar site.

Morbidity After cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass and associated factors: A retrospective observational study.

Background: The present study aimed to assess the morbidity after cardiac surgery and identify the preoperative and intraoperative factors associated with postoperative morbidity.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted including 362 adult patients aged 18-75 years who underwent open-heart surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, India, during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. Using a structured schedule, preoperative and intraoperative data were collected from the hospital's cardiac surgery database, whereas the postoperative data were collected from the intensive care unit (ICU) database and the hospital's clinical information system database.

Retailers' tobacco sales, profit margins, and promotional activities in slum areas of Bhubaneswar, India.

We conducted a cross-sectional study during January-June 2017 involving 70 tobacco retailers from 11 slums to learn about the tobacco retailers' practices of tobacco sales, their profit margins from these sales, and their promotional activities in slum areas of Bhubaneswar, India. Slum retailers were gaining a profit margin of ≥ 10% in selling 68% of cigarette brands and in all brands of bidi (smoked tobacco) and smokeless tobacco. Almost 50% of retailers were directly or indirectly advertising tobacco, and in 90% of retail shops, tobacco products were displayed in such a way that they could be seen from outside the shop.

Specific metabolic underpinnings of androgen receptor (AR)-driven growth in prostate adenocarcinoma (PCa) are largely undefined, hindering the development of strategies to leverage the metabolic dependencies of this disease when hormonal manipulations fail. Here we show that the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC), a critical metabolic conduit linking cytosolic and mitochondrial metabolism, is transcriptionally regulated by AR. Experimental MPC inhibition restricts proliferation and metabolic outputs of the citric acid cycle (TCA) including lipogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation in AR-driven PCa models.
