In this study, the effects of Goose parvovirus (GPV) infection as well as the possible role of NS1 protein on apoptosis induction in goose embryo fibroblast (GEF) cells were examined. Flow cytometry analysis and TUNEL assays revealed that GPV infection and NS1 transfection induced significant apoptosis in GEF cells compared to what was observed in mock-infected cells. Interestingly, the increase in the rate of apoptosis detected in GPV-infected GEFs was accompanied by an increased viral load in the cells.

The use of heavy metal passivators to prevent vegetables from absorbing heavy metals is an important measure to control heavy metal-polluted vegetable fields and to ensure the safe production of vegetables. A pot experiment of planting three times in succession was conducted to study the effects of N3 (N3), rice husk biochar (BC), sheep manure organic fertilizer (SM), strain N3 combined with biochar (BC+N3), and strain N3 combined with sheep manure (SM+N3) on Cd uptake and the functional stability of lettuce using a heavy metal passivator only at the first planting. The comprehensive applicability of the passivation materials was evaluated by the dynamic weighted comprehensive function.

Background And Objectives: Sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (SAHS) is a prevalent sleep breathing disorder that can lead to brain damage and is also a risk factor for cognitive impairment and some common diseases. Studies on cortical effective connectivity (EC) during sleep may provide more direct and pathological information and shed new light on brain dysfunction due to SAHS. However, the EC is rarely explored in SAHS patients, especially during different sleep stages.

A novel tapered fiber-optic radiation sensor (TFRS) based on cerium (Ce) and terbium (Tb) co-doped YAG scintillation crystals is demonstrated for the first time. Using the CO laser-heated method, a Ce/Tb:YAG crystal is well embedded into silica glass cladding without any cracks. The scintillation light emitted from the YAG scintillation crystal can be directly coupled into the derived silica optical fiber by the tapered region.

Background: COVID-19 is a public health emergency of international concern. Its incidence rates and mortality are very high; however, so far, an effective drug treatment remains unknown. Based on the role of convalescent plasma therapy in previously identified viral pneumonias, patients with severe COVID-19 have been given this therapy.

Background: Although researchers have adopted various methods for the resection and reconstruction of periacetabular tumors, the total incidence rate of complications remains high. Aiming for preserving the acetabulum and reducing the risk of complications, we applied a surgery method using tumor-free autologous femoral head to reconstruct the defective acetabulum after resection of periacetabular tumors followed by performing a conventional total hip arthroplasty (THA). Moreover, we proposed a preliminary classification system for these surgery methods.

Background: The acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) classification, proposed by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO), attempts to cover all ACLF patients diagnosed in the East and West. This study aimed to explore and establish a prognostic model based on this classification.

Methods: A total of 1159 hepatitis B virus-ACLF patients, enrolled with 90-day follow-up data, were divided into three groups (type A, B, and C) according to WGO ACLF classification and analyzed.

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on proangiogenesis process and protein turn-over in a mouse model of sarcopenia, so as to explore its potential molecular mechanism anti-aging.

Methods: Fourteen 30-week-old male SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into a model group (=7) and an EA group (=7). Seven anti-rapidly aging SAMR1 mice of the same age were used as the control group (=7).

Background And Aim: Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a frequent complication in various cardiovascular diseases. However, few studies have reported the prevalence of TR especially the moderate to severe or significant TR (ms-TR) maintenance dialysis patients. Thus, we aimed to identify the prevalence of ms-TR and its associated factors.

To determine the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and its associated factors among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who underwent maintenance dialysis. A total of 491 patients received echocardiography examinations and underwent pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) assessments. A subgroup of 283 patients were subjected to plasma creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen concentration (BUN) tests, routine blood examinations and electrolyte analysis.

Background: Avascular necrosis (AVN) after pediatric femoral neck fracture (PFNF) showed poor prognosis, but its clinical and radiographic characteristics remained unclear.

Methods: A systematic review and a retrospective study were performed to evaluate the clinical and radiographic characteristics of patients with AVN after PFNF.

Results: A total of 686 patients with PFNF and 203 patients with AVN from 21 articles were analyzed.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been widely used in plant factories and agricultural facilities. Different LEDs can be designed in accordance with the light quality and intensity requirements of different plants, allowing the regulation of plant growth and development, as well as metabolic processes. Blue and red lights have significant effects on anthocyanin metabolism in strawberry fruit, but their effects on other metabolites are unknown.

Background: The positional distribution and size of the weight-bearing area of the femoral head in the standing position as well as the direct active surface of joint force can directly affect the result of finite element (FE) stress analysis. However, the division of this area was vague, imprecise, and un-individualized in most studies related to separate FE models of the femur. The purpose of this study was to quantify the positional distribution and size of the weight-bearing area of the femoral head in standing position by a set of simple methods, to realize individualized reconstruction of the proximal femur FE model.

Symmetry is highly relevant with various quantities and phenomena in physics. While the translational symmetry breaks at the edges of two-dimensional hexagonal crystalline flakes, it is usually associated with the breaking of central inversion symmetry that is yet to be observed in terms of physical properties. Here, we report an experiment-theory joint study on in-plane compressed single-crystal monolayer WS flakes.

Nanostructured metal catalysts have attracted great interest due to their extraordinary performance for electrocatalysis including electrochemical nitrogen reduction (ENRR). However, their working mechanisms for ENRR are still not fully understood. Herein, seven monofaceted polyhedral Au nanocrystals were synthesized and systemically compared to elucidate the relation between Au crystal facets and NRR performance.

Objectives: Polydatin (PD), extracted from Polygonum cuspidatum, has shown potential therapeutic applications due to its antiosteoporotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Our previous study suggested that PD promotes the osteogenesis of human bone marrow stromal cells (hBMSCs) via the BMP2-Wnt/β-catenin pathway. The aim of our present study was to further explore the role of PD-mediated regulation of Tafazzin (TAZ), a transcriptional coactivator with a PDZ-binding motif, in osteogenesis.

An instrument developed to monitor and diagnose crop growth can quickly and non-destructively obtain crop growth information, which is helpful for crop field production and management. Focusing on the problems with existing two-band instruments used for crop growth monitoring and diagnosis, such as insufficient information available on crop growth and low accuracy of some growth indices retrieval, our research team developed a portable three-band instrument for crop-growth monitoring and diagnosis (CGMD) that obtains a larger amount of information. Based on CGMD, this paper carried out studies on monitoring wheat growth indices.
