Mitochondria-targeted antioxidants (MTAs) have been studied quite intensively in recent years as potential therapeutic agents and vectors for the delivery of other active substances to mitochondria and bacteria. Their most studied representatives are MitoQ and SkQ1, with its fluorescent rhodamine analog SkQR1, a decyl ester of rhodamine 19 carrying plastoquinone. In the present work, we observed a pronounced antibacterial action of SkQR1 against Gram-positive bacteria, but virtually no effect on Gram-negative bacteria.

We studied the possibility of using sodium deoxyribonucleate (Derinat) for improving the efficiency of co-transplantation of mesenchymal (MSC) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) to female F1(CBA×C57BL/6) mice with bone marrow aplasia caused by exposure to γ-radiation. It was found that immunomodulator Derinat enhanced the effect of co-transplantation, in particular, triple post-irradiation administration of Derinat accelerated hematopoiesis recovery judging from the parameters of peripheral blood, total cellularity of the bone marrow and spleen, and animal survival. Single or double administration of Derinat prior to irradiation was ineffective.

The content of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) in erythrocytes and blood plasma as well as the specificity of erythrocyte membrane permeability (EMP) was studied in case of children and teenagers with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) with respect to a duration and compensation degree of the disease. Eighty-seven children and teenagers with IDDM, aged 7 to 16, and 23 age-matching healthy children and teenagers were examined. The MDA content in erythrocytes and plasma of sick children was found to be increasing yet at the disease onset and did not depend on a duration and compensation degree of diabetes.
