Purpose: Adolescents with cancer routinely report feelings of isolation and exclusion, including from medical decision-making. To address this problem and support adolescents, we designed and implemented the novel, virtual, weekly Teens4Teens peer support group and patient education program. We examined the views of participating adolescents, program guest speakers, and program moderators as they pertained to the need for the program, its feasibility, acceptability, and perceived impact.

Background & Objective: Socially assistive robots (SARs) are a promising tool to manage children's pain and distress related to medical procedures, but current options lack autonomous adaptability. The aim of this study was to understand children's and caregivers' perceptions surrounding the use of an artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced SAR to provide personalized procedural support to children during intravenous insertion (IVI) to inform the design of such a system following a user-centric approach.

Methods: This study presents a descriptive qualitative needs assessment of children and caregivers.

Objective: The aim of this study was to characterize the information needs experienced by adult patients across the continuum of their hematological cancer.

Methods: Individual semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 28 adults with hematological cancer and 18 clinicians recruited from across Canada and analyzed using interpretive description.

Results: Distinct information needs were organized across seven points of the cancer continuum: prior to diagnosis, at diagnosis, prior to treatment, during treatment, after treatment, relapse/non-response, and end of life.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the executive function (EF) profiles of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • The research reviewed 58 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on various cognitive domains such as working memory and attention, and found no significant differences in EF between those with ASD and ADHD.
  • Both groups performed worse in multiple EF areas compared to typically developing peers, indicating that ASD and ADHD may share similar executive function challenges.

Hydrogels are ideal for various food applications because of their softness, elasticity, absorbent nature, flexibility, and hygroscopic nature. Polysaccharide hydrogels are particularly suitable because of the hydrophilic nature, their food compatibility, and their non-immunogenic character. Such hydrogels offer a wide range of successful applications such as food preservation, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and food packaging.
