Compared to the large amount of data on wild samples, only a few studies reported microplastic occurrence in store-bought bivalves in which the production chain can be the main contamination route. Microplastic occurrence was herein investigated in 100 samples of store-bought clams sold as fresh or processed (vacuum-frozen or in brine) in Italy. A 10 % KOH was used for soft tissue digestion and FT-IR spectroscopy for polymer identification.

Nowadays, one of the main issues related to wild isolates is their identification at the species level, which is challenging using classical microbiological and biomolecular methods. This study aims to test MALDI-TOF MS technology in the identification of strains isolated from n.

Particularly, the case involves a batch of approximately 800 kg obtained from (Food and Agriculture Organization Zone 61 - Northwest Pacific Ocean), which, after rehydration and sectioning operations, underwent routine company checks before packaging. In about 20% of the samples, the presence of whitish nodules with a diameter ranging from 1 to 2 mm was observed on the surface of the fillets and in cross-section.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtopic Dermatitis (AD) is the most prevalent inflammatory skin disorder resulting in an intense impact on patients quality of life. The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical meaning of the DLQI scores documented between different phenotypes of AD patients under biologic therapy with Dupilumab. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 209 patients with AD treated with Dupilumab for 2 years.

These tools allow the obtention of physiological information without causing capture-related stress on the individuals. In this research, we aimed to 1) biologically validate a non-invasive method to assess fecal progestagens and estrogens fluctuations during gestation in guanacos () and 2) apply this technique to assess pregnancy in a wild free-ranging population.

First reported in the turn of the century, ADNP is a protein with crucial functions for the normal development of the central nervous system and with pleiotropic effects, explaining the multisystemic character of the syndrome. Affected individuals present with striking facial dysmorphic features and variable congenital defects.

Although haemocytes from haemolymph are usually studied to analyse these animals' immune response, the presence of haemocytes in the intervalvar liquid, which is essentially sea water, led us to characterize them. Several functional (ROS production, phagocytosis, gene expression, travel velocity and distance) and morphological (area, size and granularity) assays were performed by applying different stimuli to the mussels (waterborne infection, shell injury and their combination).

Objectives: Here, we report a case study of melanoma occurring on a tattoo on the left arm and provide an overview of all cases reported so far.
Materials & Methods: A systematic literature search of publications was conducted from inception to September 2021 via Medline (PubMed), Scopus and Google Scholar, in order to identify all cases of primitive melanomas arising on tattoos.
Background: The impact of melanoma on quality of life (QoL) is not limited to the patient but may also affect caregivers.
Objectives: To investigate the impact of melanoma on caregivers' QoL.
Materials & Methods: Caregivers of melanoma patients were recruited at the melanoma unit of our hospital.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) usually has an early onset, however, also onset in the mid-40 s may occur. Recently, the threshold of 28 years to distinguish patients with early and late onset has been proposed. The objective of our study was to compare the quality of life (QoL) and psychological distress in early- and late-onset HS patients.

An integrated pipeline was developed including sampling, pre-treatment and biomarker quantification, RNA detection, SARS-CoV-2 sequencing, mechanistic mathematical modeling and forecasting. The viral load in the inlet stream to the wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) was used to detect new outbreaks of COVID-19, and the data of viral load in the wastewater in combination with data provided by the health system was used to predict the evolution of the pandemic in the municipalities under study within a time horizon of 7 days.

The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for patient-reported outcomes such as the Simple Shoulder Test (SST) is often used to document the amount of improvement that is of importance to the patient; however, the MCID may differ for different types of shoulder arthroplasty. The objective of this study was to report the MCID of the SST and the MCID of the percentage of maximal possible improvement (%MPI) for 5 different arthroplasty types.

Although the progression of these lesions is rare, the current guidelines recommend breast conservating surgery (BCS) with adjuvant radio and/or endocrine therapy, often resulting in an overtreatment for patients. The aim of this single-center study was to evaluate the long-term outcome of the breast conservating surgery of DCIS followed by adjuvant radio and/or endocrine therapy and to identify prognostic factors associated with the risk of recurrence.
