Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major pathogen associated with hospital-acquired infections, particularly those involving multidrug-resistant strains. Carbapenem resistance, often driven by carbapenemases such as KPC, VIM, OXA-48, and NDM, poses a significant challenge in clinical settings. This study reports on K.

This study investigated a strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae, identified as GRTHES, which exhibited extensive antibiotic resistance. The strain was resistant to all beta-lactams, including combinations with newer agents such as meropenem/vaborbactam and imipenem/relebactam, as well as to aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, fosfomycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and colistin. It remained susceptible to tigecycline.

Article Synopsis
  • * Whole-genome sequencing showed that A382 possesses the blaKPC-3 and blaSHV-182 genes on an IncX3 plasmid, along with other resistance determinants and several virulence factors.
  • * Despite its extensive drug resistance profile, isolate A382 remains susceptible to certain antibiotics like aminoglycosides and colistin.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major human pathogen, because it causes both community- and hospital-acquired infections. Several multidrug-resistant high-risk clones of K. pneumoniae have been reported worldwide, and these are responsible for high numbers of difficult-to-treat infections.
