This paper addresses the critical and urgent need to reduce food losses and waste (FLW) resulting from stringent marketing standards. It proposes a comprehensive and actionable framework grounded in the three pillars of sustainability-environmental, economic, and social-to effectively evaluate FLW across the entire food supply chain. The paper involves a thorough review of existing marketing standards, including research on FLW due to marketing standards, and proposes the implementation of targeted key actions within four key food sectors: fruits, vegetables, dairy, and cereals.

Agar gels were previously proven capable of accurately replicating the acoustical and thermal properties of real tissue and widely used for the construction of tissue-mimicking phantoms (TMPs) for focused ultrasound (FUS) applications. Given the current popularity of magnetic resonance-guided FUS (MRgFUS), we have investigated the MR relaxation times T1 and T2 of different mixtures of agar-based phantoms. Nine TMPs were constructed containing agar as the gelling agent and various concentrations of silicon dioxide and evaporated milk.

Background: Robotic-assisted diagnostic and therapeutic modalities require a highly accurate performance to be certified for clinical application. In this paper, three simple methods for assessing the accuracy of motion of magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) robotic systems are presented.

Methods: The accuracy of motion of a 4 degrees of freedom robotic system intended for preclinical use of MRgFUS was evaluated by calliper-based and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods, as well as visually by performing multiple ablations on a plastic film.

Efficient integration and visualization of heterogeneous biomedical information in a single view is a key challenge. In this study, we present Arena3Dweb, the first, fully interactive and dependency-free, web application which allows the visualization of multilayered graphs in 3D space. With Arena3Dweb, users can integrate multiple networks in a single view along with their intra- and inter-layer connections.

In this article, we establish a new class of distribution-free Shewhart-type monitoring schemes based on order statistics. The setup of the proposed family of nonparametric control charts is presented in detail. Specific monitoring schemes, already introduced in the literature, are confirmed to be members of the new class.

The antiproliferative activity of the gold complex [Au(tpp)Cl] (1) (tpp=triphenyphosphine) against human breast adenocarcinoma cells (MCF-7) and normal human fetal lung fibroblast cells (MRC-5) was investigated. The compound exhibits stronger activity against MCF-7 cells than cisplatin. The apoptotic pathway, especially though the mitochondrion damage was concluded by cell cycle arrest, flow cytometry using Annexin V-Fluorescein IsoThioCyanate (FITC) and Propidium Iodide (PI) as indicators, assays and permeabilization of the mitochondrial membrane tests.

Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of on-pump beating heart coronary surgery on organ function, and early and late health outcome as compared with conventional technique.

Methods: A total of 81 patients were randomised to (1) coronary surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and cardioplegic arrest (CA) (on-pump with CA, n=41) or to (2) CPB without CA (on-pump without CA, n=40). Primary outcomes included serial measurement of interleukins (IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10) for inflammation, troponin I for myocardial injury, protein S100 for cerebral injury and creatinine clearance (CrCl) and urinary N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase (NAG) for renal injury.

Objectives: This study investigates the effects of controlled reoxygenation cardiopulmonary bypass on oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and organ function in children undergoing repair of cyanotic congenital heart defects.

Methods: Sixty-seven cyanotic patients (median age 15 months, interquartile range 6-49 months) undergoing corrective cardiac surgery were randomized to receive either controlled normoxic (50-0 mm Hg; n = 35) or hyperoxic (150-180 mm Hg; n = 32) cardiopulmonary bypass. Troponin I and 8-isoprostane, C3a, interleukins 6, 8, and 10, cortisol, protein S100, and alpha-glutamate transferase were measured preoperatively and 10 and 30 minutes after starting bypass, on removal of the aortic crossclamp, and 12 and 24 hours thereafter.
