The search for new technologies and related new biological materials for use in the cosmetics industry requires many studies and analyses of not only chemical but also physical properties. This study attempts to assess the properties of soap produced with the addition of crushed hazelnut shells. This additive is intended to improve the friction properties of the soap, which in turn enhances the quality of removing impurities from the skin.

Streptococcus gordonii is a normally commensal oral microorganism; while not causative, recent evidence indicates that commensal oral microbes are required for the full development of periodontal disease. We have recently reported that inflammatory macrophages counterintuitively allow for the increased survival of phagocytosed S.

It was shown for caveolin-rich adipocytes, that GM3 ganglioside binds to insulin receptor (IR), dissociates its complex with caveolin, and thus lowers IR autophosphorylation following insulin treatment. We extended those studies into human hepatocyte-derived HepG2 cells, characterized by a high level of IR but low of caveolin.

Their vast use is connected with their antibacterial or antioxidising properties, as well as numerous pro-health properties. The aim of the presented research was assessment of the quantitative and qualitative composition of moulds which contaminate samples of dried herbs: Sage (Salvia officinalis L.

Compounds 14a-i possessed potent cholinesterase inhibitory activity (with IC50 values as low as 1.18 nM for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and 0.

Especially, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) has recently gained special interest. On the other hand, compounds having antioxidative properties may have a beneficial role in slowing down neurodegeneration processes.

The AF-GM1 hydrazones obtained were reduced with NaBH(4) or [3H]NaBH(4) and purified by high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Final yields of AF-GM1s exceeded 30%, purity was better than 97%, and radiochemical purity of 3H-labeled AF-GM1s was more than 94.

We assessed the effect of the ceramide structure of four [(3)H]-labeled GM1 ganglioside molecular species (GM1s) taken up by HL-60 cells on their occurrence in LDMs, and compared it with our previous observations for DRMs.

IGF1R activation by ligand exposure in growth factor-deprived cells induces Akt activation in the FET, CBS, and GEO colon cancer cell lines. Investigation of IGF1R-mediated signaling pathways using small interfering RNA approaches indicated that, as expected, phosphatidylinositol 3'-kinase (PI3K) was activated by IGF1R.

GM1s uptake by HL-60 cells was affected by the structure of their ceramides. Resistance to removal with trypsin and the stoichiometry of [(125)I] cholera toxin (CT) binding indicated that the added GM1s were incorporated into the membranes of the cells used for the isolation of DRMs in a manner resembling endogenous gangliosides.

Last year we celebrated the 180th birth anniversary and this year the 100th death anniversary of this outstanding man. The paper presents the scientific achievements of Rudolf Virchow as it was presented in Polish medical magazines in the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century.

Sera were screened by ELISA with plates coated with GM3(NeuAc), GM3(NeuGc), GM2, GM1, FucGM1, GD3, GD1a or GD1b gangliosides. Ganglioside reactive antibodies were detected more frequently in sera of patients with DTC than in sera of healthy persons, in keeping with the possibility of autoimmunization during carcinogenesis.

In the present study we searched for the presence of anti-FucGM1 ganglioside, as well as anti-GM1, GM2 and GD3 ganglioside autoantibodies in the sera of patients with SCLC and as a control, in sera of patients with renal cell cancer (RC) and healthy blood donors. The autoantibodies against FucGM1 were present at low titer in only three of 36 SCLC patients, and with similar titer in two of 36 RC patients and four of 36 healthy controls.

We prepared 4-azidosalicylic acid (ASA) acylated derivatives of GM3, GD3, GM1, and FucGM1 gangliosides (gangliosides-ASA). Gangliosides-ASA were characterized by their TLC mobility, UV spectra, carbohydrate composition, and digestion with leech endoceramidase.

Gangliosides-ASA, added to the medium at 15-20 nM concentration, followed a similar time course of uptake.
