Article Synopsis
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) involves the gradual breakdown of joint cartilage and could be treated by delivering functional genes to chondrocytes to alter the inflammatory environment.
  • Challenges like the dense extracellular matrix and quick clearance of nucleic acids led to the development of highly branched poly(β-amino ester)s (HPAEs), specifically HMDA-2, which demonstrated better gene delivery efficiency than existing methods.
  • In tests involving a rat model, HMDA-2 successfully delivered the FBXO6 gene, resulting in reduced inflammation, cartilage damage, and improved joint health, highlighting its potential as a treatment for OA.

Intelligent indicator films with colorimetric pH indicator properties were developed, incorporating black soybean seed coat anthocyanin (BA), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), and sodium alginate (SA) to monitor meat freshness. The effect of different CNC additions on the microstructure, water barrier properties of the films, and BA release kinetics were comprehensively investigated. The results showed that with the increasement of CNC addition, the mechanical properties of SA/BA/CNC films were improved, the water contact angle significantly increased from 51.

Transparent wood (TW) has attracted much attention in the field of energy saving building structural materials because of its high light transmittance, good thermal insulation performance and good toughness. However, the polymeric resins used in the present study to impregnate lignin-based wood templates are usually derived from petroleum-based chemical resources, which pose a fatal threat to human beings both in terms of consuming large amounts of resources and causing environmental pollution problems. It is therefore important to develop alternatives to petroleum-derived chemicals in renewable natural resources.

Protein hydrolysates from sea cucumber () gonads are rich in active materials with remarkable angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity. Alcalase was used to hydrolyze sea cucumber gonads, and the hydrolysate was separated by the ultrafiltration membrane to produce a low-molecular-weight peptide component (less than 3 kDa) with good ACE inhibitory activity. The peptide component (less than 3 kDa) was isolated and purified using a combination method of ACE gel affinity chromatography and reverse high-performance liquid chromatography.

Aircraft icing due to severe cold and local factors increases the risk of flight delays and safety issues. Therefore, this study focuses on optimizing de-icing allocation and adapting to dynamic flight schedules at medium to large airports. Moreover, it aims to establish a centralized de-icing methodology employing unmanned de-icing vehicles to achieve the dual objectives of minimizing flight delay times and enhancing airport de-icing efficiency.

Background: Autotoxicity is an intraspecific manifestation of allelopathy in plant species. The specialized metabolites and their derivatives that cause intraspecific allelopathic inhibition in the plant are known as autotoxic substances. Consequently, autotoxic substances production seriously affects the renewal and stability of ecological communities.

The quality changes, dynamic changes in microbial composition, and diversity changes in large yellow croaker during 4 °C refrigeration were studied using 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing technology, and the total viable count (TVC), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) were determined. The results revealed a consistent increase in TVC, TVB-N, and TBARS levels over time. On the 9th day, TVC reached 7.

Squid ink melanin can be efficiently extracted from the byproduct ink sac generated during squid processing. As a natural food colorant, it possesses inherent antioxidant properties and the capability to adsorb heavy metals. This study aims to investigate the solubility of water-soluble squid ink melanin (WSSM) obtained from the ink sac, as well as its stability under various conditions including temperature, pH, salt, sugar, potassium sorbate, metal ions, sodium benzoate, sodium sulfite (reducing agent), and hydrogen peroxide (oxidizing agent).

Localized interlayer excitons (LIXs) in two-dimensional moiré superlattices exhibit sharp and dense emission peaks, making them promising as highly tunable single-photon sources. However, the fundamental nature of these LIXs is still elusive. Here, we show the donor-acceptor pair (DAP) mechanism as one of the origins of these excitonic peaks.

Industrial enterprises have high requirements on timeliness and cost when delivering industrial products to their customers. For this reason, this paper studies the vehicle routing problem (VRP) of different vehicle models in multiple distribution centers. First of all, we consider the multi-dimensional constraints in the actual distribution process such as vehicle load and time window, and build a multi-objective optimization model for product distribution with the goal of minimizing the distribution time and cost and maximizing the loading rate of vehicles.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) has experienced rapid development owing to its advantages of rapid testing, low cost and strong operability, making it indispensable for analyte detection in outdoor or rural areas. In this study, we propose a novel method for the detection of aflatoxin B (AFB) using a dual-signal readout approach within a unified system. This method employs dual channel modes, namely visual fluorescence and weight measurements, as the signal readouts.
