Purpose: Traditional methods used to evaluate changes in kidney function to identify acute kidney injury (AKI) have significant limitations. Damage biomarkers can identify patients at risk for AKI prior to changes in kidney function. Introduction: Faculty and staff from Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Pharmacy created a simulation activity focused on the care of critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Students on remote, short-term-care advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE) rotations from both universities worked in comingled teams and completed two educational electronic health record reviews, complex simulation sessions, and debriefs. Objectives: First, to implement successfully a light-sedation protocol, favoring initial as-needed (prioritizing as-needed) boluses over continuous infusion sedation, and second, to evaluate if this protocol was associated with differences in patient-level sedative requirements, clinical outcomes, and unit-level longitudinal changes in pharmacy charges for sedative medications.

Introduction: To summarize the status of medical marijuana instruction in the PharmD curriculum and capture future plans for the incorporation of medical marijuana content.

Methods: One hundred and forty United States schools and colleges of pharmacy were contacted to complete an anonymous survey regarding inclusion of medical marijuana topics in their curriculum, future plans for inclusion, and evaluation of perceived importance of specific topics.

Results: Forty nine percent (68/140) of schools and colleges completed the survey and 62% (44/68) include medical marijuana content in their curriculum.

Shock syndromes are associated with unacceptably high rates of mortality in critically ill patients despite advances in therapeutic options. Vasodilatory shock is the most common type encountered in the intensive care unit. Purpose: Conflicting data exists on the pharmacologic management of intensive care unit (ICU) delirium. This review appraises the current evidence of pharmacologic management of ICU delirium.

Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search of MEDLINE and Embase was conducted to answer the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome (PICO) question of: "Does the use of a pharmacologic agent compared to standard of care or placebo improve ICU delirium in a critically ill patient population?"

Results: After application of the PICO question and the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles were included.

Nephrotoxin exposure accounts for up to one-fourth of acute kidney injury episodes in hospitalized patients, and the associated consequences are as severe as acute kidney injury due to other etiologies.
