Promoting long-term local ownership of natural heritage through outreach: the case of the endemic Bolivian titi monkeys.

Adequate knowledge and learning about local biodiversity are a prerequisite for effective attitudinal changes in favour of species protection. Outreach activities are considered a useful tool for sharing information with local stakeholders who play a crucial role in conserving wildlife. We conducted two outreach campaigns focused on schoolchildren in two villages to share information on the natural history of the Bolivian endemic titi monkeys, Plecturocebus olallae and Plecturocebus modestus, to promote their conservation.

Delayed Stimulus-Specific Improvements in Discourse Following Anomia Treatment Using an Intentional Gesture.

Purpose: In this study, the authors assessed how the addition of intentional left-hand gestures to an intensive treatment for anomia affects 2 types of discourse: picture description and responses to open-ended questions.Method: Fourteen people with aphasia completed treatment for anomia comprising 30 treatment sessions over 3 weeks.Seven subjects also incorporated intentional left-hand gestures into each treatment trial.

Functional and physiological outcomes from an exercise-based dysphagia therapy: a pilot investigation of the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program.

Objective: To investigate functional and physiological changes in swallowing performance of adults with chronic dysphagia after an exercise-based dysphagia therapy.

Design: Intervention study: before-after trial with 3-month follow-up evaluation.

Setting: Outpatient clinic within a tertiary care academic health science center.

Measurement of hyoid and laryngeal displacement in video fluoroscopic swallowing studies: variability, reliability, and measurement error.

Video fluoroscopy is commonly used in the study of swallowing kinematics. However, various procedures used in linear measurements obtained from video fluoroscopy may contribute to increased variability or measurement error. This study evaluated the influence of calibration referent and image rotation on measurement variability for hyoid and laryngeal displacement during swallowing.
