Plastid-encoded RNA polymerase (PEP) is a bacterial-type multisubunit RNA polymerase responsible for the majority of transcription in chloroplasts. PEP consists of four core subunits, which are orthologs of their cyanobacterial counterparts. In Arabidopsis thaliana, PEP is expected to interact with 14 PEP-associated proteins (PAPs), which serve as peripheral subunits of the RNA polymerase.

DNA is organized into chromatin-like structures that support the maintenance and regulation of genomes. A unique and poorly understood form of DNA organization exists in chloroplasts, which are organelles of endosymbiotic origin responsible for photosynthesis. Chloroplast genomes, together with associated proteins, form membrane-less structures known as nucleoids.

The molecular mechanisms that underly the development of the 3D growth pattern are poorly understood, mainly because 3D growth in seed plants starts during embryo development. In contrast, the transition from 2D to 3D growth in the moss Physcomitrium patens has been widely studied, and it involves a large turnover of the transcriptome to allow the establishment of stage-specific transcripts that facilitate this developmental transition.

One of those enzymes is a bacterial-type, multi-subunit polymerase encoded by the plastid genome. The plastid-encoded RNA polymerase (PEP) is required for efficient expression of genes encoding proteins involved in photosynthesis.

Material And Methods: Cross-sectional observational study based on a discrete choice experiment (DCE) conducted in Spain. A literature review, a focus group with oncologists and interviews with patients informed the DCE design.
Historical records document medieval immigration from North Africa to Iberia to create Islamic al-Andalus. Here, we present a low-coverage genome of an eleventh century CE man buried in an Islamic necropolis in Segorbe, near Valencia, Spain. Uniparental lineages indicate North African ancestry, but at the autosomal level he displays a mosaic of North African and European-like ancestries, distinct from any present-day population.

As a result of the sessile nature of plants, their response, adjustment and adaptation to the changing environment is intimately coordinated with their developmental programs through the crosstalk of regulatory networks. Germination is a critical process in the plant life cycle, and thus plants have evolved various strategies to control the timing of germination according to their local environment.

As anti-PD(L)1 modulate tumour microenvironment, it might impact sensitivity to conventional cancer therapy (CCT). Therefore, we explored whether sensitivity to CCT was different before and after anti-PD(L)1 therapy.

Pvu-miR1514a targets a NAC transcription factor mRNA for cleavage and subsequently triggers NAC-derived phasiRNA formation. Here we show that accumulation and activity of miR1514a are also conserved in the model legume Medicago truncatula.

Data relating to the frequency and clinical and pathological characteristics of both familial and non-familial melanoma in Spain have been published, but these only include patients from specific areas of Spain and do not represent the data for the whole of Spain.
Patients And Methods: An observational study conducted by the Spanish Group of Melanoma (GEM) analyzed the family history of patients diagnosed with melanoma between 2011 and 2013 in the dermatology and oncology departments.
We designed an experimental model of acute otitis media to study its effects in the hair cells of the organ of Corti. Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were used, and divided into three groups. The rats from the first group were exposed to one episode of acute otitis media, the second group to two episodes and the third group were induced with three episodes of acute otitis media.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFFungal sinusitis has a nonspecific clinical presentation, is refractory to standard medical treatment and may produce expansion and erosion of the sinus wall. Various factors have been implicated in the development of fungal sinusitis: anatomical factors in the osteomeatal complex, tissular hypoxia, traumatic factors, massive exposure to fungal spores, allergy and immunosuppression. Our study of four cases diagnosed in the department included the clinical, pathological, and radiological features of fungal sinusitis.

Nasal obstruction was present in 100% of the cases. External surgery was performed in 70% of these patients, finding that in 50% of them, the real size of the tumor was smaller than that show in the radiological study.

We report on the bacterial flora of the external ear canal and of induced aural cholesteatoma in 14 Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus). In the control, nonmanipulated external ear canal, gram-positive and gram-negative organisms were isolated. In the contents of the cholesteatoma sac, only monomicrobial, gram-negative isolates were found; in each animal they were different from the isolates from the nonmanipulated external ear canal.
