Jugular vein blood was collected daily from four mature ewes throughout anoestrus and the first oestrous cycle of the breeding season until 4 days after the second oestrus. Nuclei isolated from glucagon-stimulated perfused rat livers contained 2-3 times as much protein kinase activity as did nuclei from control animals. In the presence of either the heat-stable inhibitor or the protein kinase regulatory subunit the elevated cyclic AMP-independent enzyme activity from stimulated nuclei was inhibited to an activity equivalent to that found in controls.

After orthotopic liver transplantation and biliary reconstruction by cholecystoduodenostomy, four of 40 patients developed delayed obstruction of the cystic duct. The recipients had the clinical syndrome of fulminating cholangitis with jaundice, fever, leukocytosis, toxemia, and bacteremia. All four patients died; of the four, two patients died despite late reoperation and re-establishment of bile drainage by choledochoenterostomy.
