Complementary and Integrative Medicine Prevalence and Utilization in International Military and Veteran Settings and Communities: A Systematic Review.

Introduction: Active duty military personnel and veterans have unique and complex health needs, with the high demands of military life often leading to chronic physical and mental health conditions. Complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) could be a possible solution to this problem. Some military health systems have started integrating CIM into health care delivery.

The main goal of the presented study is to introduce a model of a pairwise invasion interaction with a nonlinear diffusion and advection. The new equation is based on the further general works introduced by Bramson (1988) to describe the invasive-invaded dynamics. This type of model is made particular with a density dependent diffusion along with an advection term.

Atraumatic Acromioclavicular Joint Dislocation: A Case Report Treated with Excision of the Distal Clavicle Margin and Button Slide System with Allograft Tendon Reinforcement at Coracoclavicular and Acromioclavicular Joint.

Although acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation is a common injury following trauma involving the shoulder, it is rare in the absence of trauma. In this manuscript, we describe a case of ACJ in a 15-year-old girl who presented a painful dislocation with spontaneous shortening of the right acromioclavicular joint that forced her to temporarily abandon her sports career. After failure of conservative physiotherapy treatment, surgical intervention was proposed by performing an arthroscopic-assisted button slide combined with augmented hamstring allograft reconstruction.

Heterogeneous Diffusion and Nonlinear Advection in a One-Dimensional Fisher-KPP Problem.

The goal of this study is to provide an analysis of a Fisher-KPP non-linear reaction problem with a higher-order diffusion and a non-linear advection. We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions together with asymptotic solutions and positivity conditions. We show the existence of instabilities based on a shooting method approach.

Serum Biomarkers in Differential Diagnosis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Connective Tissue Disease-Associated Interstitial Lung Disease.

Introduction: The goal of this study is to determine whether Advanced glycosylated end-products (AGE), Advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) and Matrix metalloproteinase 7 (MMP7) could be used as differential biomarkers for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD).

Method: Seventy-three patients were enrolled: 29 with IPF, 14 with CTD-ILD, and 30 healthy controls. The study included a single visit by participants.

Long-Term Safety and Efficacy of Prebiotic Enriched Infant Formula-A Randomized Controlled Trial.

The present study aims to evaluate the effects of an infant formula supplemented with a mixture of prebiotic short and long chain inulin-type oligosaccharides on health outcomes, safety and tolerance, as well as on fecal microbiota composition during the first year of life. In a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind study, = 160 healthy term infants under 4 months of age were randomized to receive either an infant formula enriched with 0.8 g/dL of OraftiSynergy1 or an unsupplemented control formula until the age of 12 months.

Season effects on the suckling behavior of piglets.

The suckling behavior of piglets was evaluated in summer and winter, using 21 sows of the same genetic line. Data were collected in July (winter) and in January (summer). The experimental design was a randomized complete block (age of piglets) in a 2x2 factorial scheme, with season of the year (winter and summer) and shift (day, from 06 h to 1h:59min and night from 18h to 05h:59min) as factors.

L-arginine supplementation during the final third of gestation improves litter uniformity and physical characteristics of neonatal piglet thermoregulation.

The study assessed the effects of dietary L-arginine supplementation from days 85 to 115 of gestation on sow performance, litter quality, piglet physiology and survival variables in the first 24 hr of life. Twenty multiparous sows, with a history of hyperprolificacy (more than 14 piglets per litter), were used. A completely randomized experimental design was used, consisting of two treatments: feed supplemented or not with 1% L-arginine from days 85 to 115 of gestation.

Effectiveness of citrulline and N-carbamoyl glutamate as arginine precursors on reproductive performance in mammals: A systematic review.

The use of functional nutrients has been proposed to reduce the occurrence of intrauterine growth retardation in animals at birth in several mammalian species. The objective of this study was to verify the effectiveness of citrulline and N-carbamylglutamate (NCG) dietary supplementation as arginine precursors for mammalian species, and the effects on fetal development through a systematic review. The search for studies was performed during August 2018 in the PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Science Direct, and Scopus databases.

Effects of maternal artificial vocalization on hyperprolific lactating sows and piglets behavior.

The objective of this trial was to evaluate the behavioral patterns and performance of lactating sows and their litters under the effect of artificial vocalization. Twenty-eight sows and their litters were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2x2 factorial scheme (artificial vocalization x lactation week). The behavior of the animals was monitored during 24 hours on the 7th and 15th days of lactation, analyzing the number, interval, and frequency of nursings.

Relative bioavailability of l-lysine sulfate is equivalent to that of l-lysine HCl for nursery piglets.

Supplementary l-lysine sources include l-lysine HCl and l-lysine sulfate. l-Lysine sulfate contains at least 50% l-Lys and other components as residues from the fermentation process, other amino acids, and other organic and inorganic substances, being an alternative to l-Lys HCl. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relative bioavailability (RBV) of l-Lys sulfate in comparison with l-Lys HCl and its effects on performance, blood parameters, intestinal functionality, and the apparent total tract digestibility in nursery piglets.

Heat negatively affects lactating swine: A meta-analysis.

A meta-analysis was carried out to evaluate the effect of heat on the performance of lactating sows and their litters. The database containing information on the effects heat stress has on the productive and reproductive performance of lactating sows was composed by 20 articles published in international journals from 2000 to 2016, totalizing 2222 lactating sows. The duration of lactation was corrected to 21d.

Swine foetal myogenesis in different gestation periods.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of sex and uterus position on swine foetal myogenesis at different gestational ages. Fifteen primiparous sows were divided into three groups according to gestational age: 50, 80, and 106 days. The experiment was a block randomized factorial design with two sexes (male and female) and three uterine regions (apex, middle, and base).

Arginine for gestating sows and foetal development: A systematic review.

The use of functional amino acids during pregnancy has been linked to improved reproduction in mammals. In this context, arginine is a precursor in the synthesis of numerous molecules, such as nitric oxide and polyamines, which play an important role during reproduction. However, contradictory studies are found in the literature, particularly regarding the amount of supplementation and the period of pregnancy in which it is used.

Urological injuries associated with pelvic fractures: A case report of a detached bone segment inside the bladder.

Introduction: Urological injuries in pelvic fractures are noticed in 6-15% of the cases. The bladder, due to its anatomical position, is prone to rupture in pelvic fractures. The majority of urinary bladder injuries are either extraperitoneal or intraperitoneal.

The Yo me cuido® Program: Addressing Breast Cancer Screening and Prevention Among Hispanic Women.

Breast cancer is less likely to be diagnosed at the earliest stage in Hispanic/Latino (Hispanic) women compared to non-Hispanic White women, even after accounting for differences in age, socioeconomic status, and method of detection. Moffitt Cancer Center created a comprehensive health education program called Yo me cuido (®) (YMC) to address and reduce breast cancer disparities among Spanish- and English-speaking Hispanic women by providing breast cancer and healthy lifestyles awareness and education, and promoting breast cancer screenings, reminders, and referrals for women 40 years and older. The purpose of this paper is to showcase the innovative approaches and methods to cancer prevention and early detection of the YMC program, and to promote it as an effective tool for improving outcomes in community health education, outreach, and engagement activities with Hispanic populations.

[Caudal regression syndrome].

Introduction: The regression caudal syndrome includes a spectrum of malformations which vary from the symptomless coccygeal agenesis until thoracic vertebrae and sacrococcygeal agenesis with severe neurological deficit; it is associated sometimes with malformations in other organs and systems. We present a case of partial agenesis of sacro and coccix with neuromuscular, sphincter and orthopedist alterations.

Anaesthetic implications of Cornelia de Lange syndrome.

Cornelia de Lange syndrome is a congenital disease characterized basically by psychomotor retardation associated with a series of malformations (mainly skeletal craniofacial deformities together with gastrointestinal and cardiac malformations). [Efficacy of the EMLA cream in the reduction of pain caused by venipuncture in children premedicated with oral midazolam].

Objective: EMLA cream, a lidocaine-prilocaine mixture, penetrates skin easily. Our aim was to compare EMLA and placebo to assess the efficacy of EMLA in decreasing the pain of venipuncture in children premedicated with oral midazolam 0.5 mg/kg.

[ 2 cases of tension pneumopericardium after unilateral lung transplantation].

We present 2 patients who developed tension pneumopericardium after undergoing unilateral lung transplantation, describing their clinical evolution after surgery until the diagnosis of tension pneumopericardium. In both cases aspiration of air from the pericardium resulted in improved hemodynamic status. Tension pneumopericardium is rare in adults.
