Background: Piperine, a secondary metabolite, affects the antihyperlipidemic effect of Ezetimibe (EZ). Hyperlipidemia is one of the independent risk factors for cardiovascular disorders such as atherosclerosis. Antihyperlipidemic drugs are essential for reducing cardiovascular events and patient mortality.

Global cerebral ischemia is one of the major causes of memory and cognitive impairment. Hyperactivation of acetylcholine esterase (AChE), oxidative stress, and inflammation are reported to cause memory and cognitive impairment in global cerebral ischemia. Morin, a flavonoid, is reported to have neuroprotective properties through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in multiple neurological diseases.

Global cerebral ischemia is commonly associated with neurological deficits, including cognitive and memory impairments. The present study aims to investigate the neuroprotective, cognitive, and memory enhancement effects of Tangeretin, a flavonoid against global cerebral ischemia in rats. Bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) and reperfusion injury method was used to induce global cerebral ischemia in rats.

The gum resin exuding from the leaf buds of Gardenia gummifera was investigated. Eight new cycloartane triterpenes, 1-6, 8, and 10, together with two known triterpenes, 25-hydroxycycloart-23-en-3-one (7) and cycloartenone (9), were isolated and identified by extensive NMR spectroscopy. For cycloartenone (9), full NMR assignments are given as these data were not available in the literature.

Eleven known flavonoids (1-11) were isolated from Dikamali, the gum resin of Gardenia lucida. Three of them, desmethylnobiletin, pectolinarigenin and xanthomicrol, are a new report from this source. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data are being given for all the isolates.

Eleven novel pregnane glycosides, 2-7 and 9-13, of which four, i.e., 10-13, comprised a new pregnane-type genin exhibiting a hydroxymethylene instead of a Me group at C(19), and the known pregnane glycoside stalagmoside V (8) were isolated from whole plants of Caralluma adscendens var.
