Yellow mosaic disease of (L.) Thouars (CsYMD) was observed in up to 46% of plants in the mungbean, urdbean, and pigeon pea fields from 22 districts of Chhattisgarh State, India, during 2017 to 2019. The symptoms were characterized by yellow mosaic on green leaves and yellow discoloration of leaves in advanced stages of the disease.

Plant viruses encounter a range of host defenses including non-host resistance (NHR), leading to the arrest of virus replication and movement in plants. Viruses have limited host ranges, and adaptation to a new host is an atypical phenomenon. The entire genotypes of plant species which are imperceptive to every single isolate of a genetically variable virus species are described as non-hosts.

Unlabelled: Mungbean is one of the important food legumes in the Indian-sub-continent. Yellow mosaic disease, caused by Mungbean yellow mosaic virus and Mungbean yellow mosaic India virus (MYMIV) poses a severe threat to its production. Agroinoculation has been the most preferred way to test the function of genomic components of these viruses.

Severe leaf curl disease of tomato (ToLCD) was noticed recently in the central parts of India and is an emerging threat to the cultivation of tomato. The genomic components of the begomovirus isolate, DNA A and betasatellite associated with ToLCD were cloned by rolling circle amplification method and sequenced. The sequence analysis revealed that the DNA A (2766 nt) of this isolate had the nucleotide identity of >91% with other strains of Tomato leaf curl Karnataka virus (ToLCKV), hence this isolate is proposed as a strain of ToLCKV, named as ToLCKV-Raipur.

Drought transcriptome analysis of finger millet (Eleusine coracana) by cDNA subtraction identified drought responsive genes that have a potential role in drought tolerance. Through virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) in a related crop species, maize (Zea mays), several genes, including a G-BOX BINDING FACTOR 3 (GBF3) were identified as candidate drought stress response genes and the role of GBF3 in drought tolerance was studied in Arabidopsis thaliana. Overexpression of both EcGBF3 and AtGBF3 in A.

Drought is a calamitous abiotic stress hampering agricultural productivity all over the world and its severity is likely to increase further. Abscisic acid-stress-ripening proteins (ASR), are a group of small hydrophilic proteins which are induced by abscisic acid, stress and ripening in many plants. In the present study, ZnAsr 1 gene was fully characterized for the first time from Ziziphus nummularia, which is one of the most low water forbearing plant.
