Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, which can lead to complications such as pancreatic necrosis. The modified computed tomography severity index (MCTSI) is a widely used tool for assessing the severity of AP, particularly the extent of pancreatic necrosis. The accurate and timely assessment of the necrosis volume is crucial in guiding treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes.

TFs and Mediator contain intrinsically-disordered regions (IDRs) and form phase-separated condensates, but how IDRs control RNAPII function remains poorly understood. Using purified PIC factors, we developed a Real-time In-vitro Fluorescence Transcription assay (RIFT) for second-by-second visualization of RNAPII transcription at hundreds of promoters simultaneously.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) are crucial for tuberculosis (TB) control. Household contacts (HHC) of patients with pulmonary TB are at a high risk of LTBI due to their close proximity to source cases.
Objective: To describe the diagnosis and treatment of LTBI among HHC.
Many species of mushroom-forming fungi have been harvested in the wild and used for food and medicine for thousands of years. In Brazil, the knowledge of the diversity of wild edible mushrooms remains scattered and poorly studied. Based on new samples, bibliographic records revision, and searches through the GenBank, we recorded 409 species of wild edible mushrooms in Brazil, of which 350 can be safely consumed and 59 are edible but with conditions.

Methods: From 2017 to 2022, we prospectively evaluated a cohort of pregnant women diagnosed with preterm labor and intact membranes admitted below 34+0 weeks who underwent amniocentesis to rule-in/out intra-amniotic infection and/or inflammation. Vaginal sampling was performed at the time of amniocentesis or within 24-48 h.
In this issue of Molecular Cell, De La Cruz, Pradhan, Veettil et al. examine how selective partitioning of proteins via low-affinity IDR-dependent interactions may help regulate RNA polymerase II (RNA Pol II) function and identify sequence features that drive partitioning in cells.

Some data suggest that the use of acupuncture for favoring spontaneous labor onset could reduce the number of inductions of labor procedures. However, good quality evidence in this respect is not yet available.

To this aim, we collected adult Cnesterodon decemmaculatus fish, biofilm and water at three sampling sites in the upper-middle Luján River (S1: rural area, S2: Luján City and S3: urban area after passing Lujan City). For each site we determined physicochemical variables, heavy metal concentration in water, 19 biomarkers in fish (morphometric, histological, genotoxic, oxidative stress, metabolic and neurotoxic) and six biomarkers in biofilm (oxidative stress and extracellular enzyme).

These changes occur, at least in part, prenatally and are associated with intra-amniotic inflammation. The pattern of brain changes has been partially documented by magnetic resonance imaging but not by neurosonography along with amniotic fluid brain injury biomarkers.

Objective: We evaluated fetal cardiac morphology and function in fetuses of mothers admitted for preterm labor or preterm prelabor rupture of membranes and the association of these changes with the presence of intra-amniotic infection and/or inflammation.
Pregnant women with absolute contraindications may be advised against physical activity throughout pregnancy. In this context, bed rest elevates the short-term risk of neonatal complications, thereby exacerbating negative long-term effects on childhood development. The aim of the current study was to investigate the impact of various physical activity interventions during bed rest or activity restriction in pregnancy on factors such as birth weight, preterm birth, maternal hypertension, gestational age at delivery, and the incidence of cesarean sections.

Data Source: A systematic search for publications between January 2000 and September 2023 of the CENTRAL, PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, ClinicalTrials.gov, and EUDRACT databases was performed.
Introduction: The complex process of pregnancy and childbirth significantly influences the well-being of both mother and child. Today all pregnant women without medical contraindications are recommended to start or continue regular aerobic and strength training for at least 150 min per week to prevent pregnancy-related diseases and conditions. Urinary incontinence in pregnancy, episiotomy and third- or fourth-degree perineal tear during labor can greatly impact womens' health, quality of life and ability to be physically active.

Current identification of IAI, based on microbiological cultures and/or polymerase chain reaction amplification of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene, delay diagnosis and, consequently, antenatal management. The aim to of the study was to assess the performance of a multivariable prediction model for diagnosing IAI in patients with PTL below 34.

Background: Even though the use of nerve monitoring during parotid gland surgery is not the gold standard to prevent damage to the nerve, it surely offers some advantages over the traditional approach. Different from thyroid surgery, where a series of steps in intraoperative nerve monitoring have been described to confirm not only the integrity but-most importantly-the function of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, in parotid gland surgery, a formal guideline to follow while dissecting the facial nerve has yet to be described.
Methods: A five-year retrospective study was done reviewing the intraoperative records of patients who underwent parotid gland surgery under neural monitoring.
Background: The management of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature newborns is based on different types of non-invasive respiratory support and on surfactant replacement therapy (SRT) to avoid mechanical ventilation as it may eventually result in lung damage. European guidelines currently recommend SRT only when the fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO) exceeds 0.30.

Background: For practical and protective ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a 150-grams mechanical ventilator (VLP2000E) that limits peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) during simultaneous ventilation with chest compressions was developed.
Objectives: To evaluate the feasibility of VLP2000E ventilation during CPR and to compare monitored parameters versus bag-valve ventilation.
Methods: A randomized experimental study with 10 intubated pigs per group.
In this study, the impact of school coaching in Spain on the dimensions that comprise the effective personality construct and the development of those dimensions among secondary school students is analyzed. Differences relating to the variables of gender, course year/age, and the state/private sector of each educational center are specified. A longitudinal study employing a quasi-experimental methodology was conducted with a sample of 310 students in attendance at 6 educational centers within the Community of Madrid, Spain; the study cohort comprised 156 (50.

This work explores the structural and functional properties of gelatin (5 g/100 g), pectin (1 g/100 g), and carrageenan (1 g/100 g) gels with different content of honey (0-50 g/100 g). Honey decreased the transparency of gels and made them more yellow-greenish; all of them were firm and uniform, especially at the highest honey content.
