The Government of India has promoted the expansion of access to and uptake of intrauterine devices (IUDs), during both the interval (IIUD) and postpartum (PPIUD) periods, as part of its Family Planning 2020 initiative. This study, conducted by EngenderHealth as part of the Expanding Access to IUD Services in India project, examines IIUD and PPIUD continuation rates over time and investigates factors associated with IUD continuation. We recruited respondents (= 5024) through a repeated cross-sectional household study between February and December 2019.

Polyamines play a fundamental role in the functioning of all cells. Their regulatory role in plant development, their function under stress conditions, and their metabolism have been well documented as regards both synthesis and catabolism in an increasing number of plant species. However, the majority of these studies concentrate on the levels of the most abundant polyamines, sometimes providing data on the enzyme activity or gene expression levels during polyamine synthesis, but generally making no mention of the fact that changes in the polyamine pool are very dynamic, and that other processes are also involved in the regulation of actual polyamine levels.

We developed a novel Pd-catalysed enantioselective synthesis of C-N bonds using the chiral scaffold of DNA. The performance of most speaker diarization systems with x-vector embeddings is both vulnerable to noisy environments and lacks domain robustness. Earlier work on speaker diarization using generative adversarial network (GAN) with an encoder network (ClusterGAN) to project input x-vectors into a latent space has shown promising performance on meeting data. In this paper, we extend the ClusterGAN network to improve diarization robustness and enable rapid generalization across various challenging domains.

While anti-inflammatory properties of isocoumarins are known their PDE4 inhibitory potential was not explored previously. In our effort the non-PDE4 inhibitor isocoumarins were transformed into the promising inhibitors via introducing an aminosulfonyl/aminocarboxamide moiety to the C-3 benzene ring attached to the isocoumarin framework. This new class of isocoumarins were synthesized via a PdCl-catalyzed construction of the 4-allyl substituted 3-aryl isocoumarin ring starting from the appropriate 2-alkynyl benzamide derivative.

Iron(III)-phenolate/carboxylate complexes exhibiting photoredox chemistry and photoactivated reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation at their ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) bands have emerged as potential strategic tools for photoactivated chemotherapy. Herein, the synthesis, in-depth characterization, photochemical assays, and remarkable red light-induced photocytotoxicities in adenocarcinomic human immortalized human keratinocytes (HaCaT) and alveolar basal epithelial (A549) cells of iron(III)-phenolate/carboxylate complex of molecular formula, [Fe(L)(L)] (), where L is bis(3,5 di--butyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)glycine and L is 5-(1,2-dithiolan-3-yl)--(1,10-phenanthroline-5-yl)pentanamide, and the gold nanocomposite functionalized with complex (-AuNPs) are reported. There was a significant red shift in the UV-visible absorption band on functionalization of complex to the gold nanoparticles (λ: 573 nm, ; λ: 660 nm, -AuNPs), rendering the nanocomposite an ideal candidate for photochemotherapeutic applications.

Devil facial tumor disease (DFTD) and its lack of available therapies are propelling the Tasmanian devil population toward extinction. This study demonstrates that cholesterol homeostasis and carbohydrate energy metabolism sustain the proliferation of DFTD cells in a cell-type-dependent manner. In addition, we show that the liver-X nuclear receptor-β (LXRβ), a major cholesterol cellular sensor, and its natural ligand 24S-hydroxycholesterol promote the proliferation of DFTD cells via a metabolic switch toward aerobic glycolysis.

Isocoumarin is a lactone, a type of natural organic compound that is used as synthetic intermediates of several natural products and pharmaceutical compounds explored for their potential therapeutic applications like antifungal, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. Purpose: We report the clinical outcomes of a randomized trial comparing prophylactic whole-pelvic nodal radiotherapy to prostate-only radiotherapy (PORT) in high-risk prostate cancer.

Methods: This phase III, single center, randomized controlled trial enrolled eligible patients undergoing radical radiotherapy for node-negative prostate adenocarcinoma, with estimated nodal risk ≥ 20%. Randomization was 1:1 to PORT (68 Gy/25# to prostate) or whole-pelvic radiotherapy (WPRT, 68 Gy/25# to prostate, 50 Gy/25# to pelvic nodes, including common iliac) using computerized stratified block randomization, stratified by Gleason score, type of androgen deprivation, prostate-specific antigen at diagnosis, and prior transurethral resection of the prostate.
