Objective: The primary aim of this study was to compare osseointegration limb replacement prosthesis users (OI-LRPU) to normative published PLUS-M values for traditional socket prosthesis users (TSPU). The secondary aim was to investigate whether patient factors were predictive of PLUS-M scores.

Coupling cellular drug-target engagement to downstream pharmacology with CeTEAM.

Cellular target engagement technologies enable quantification of intracellular drug binding; however, simultaneous assessment of drug-associated phenotypes has proven challenging. Here, we present cellular target engagement by accumulation of mutant as a platform that can concomitantly evaluate drug-target interactions and phenotypic responses using conditionally stabilized drug biosensors. We observe that drug-responsive proteotypes are prevalent among reported mutants of known drug targets.

Multi-decadal impacts of effluent loading on phosphorus sorption capacity in a restored wetland.

Natural wetlands are widely used and cost-effective systems for the passive remediation of phosphorus (P)-rich surface waters from various effluent sources. Yet the long-term biogeochemical impacts of effluent loading on wetland P retention capacity are unclear. Here, we had a unique opportunity to document the spatio-temporal evolution of sediment P sorption over a ∼25-year period of constant municipal and industrial effluent loading, as part of a wetland restoration and wastewater treatment strategy in one of the largest restored wetlands in Canada.

Medial Closing Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy Accurately Corrects Genu Valgum without Iatrogenic Deformity or Complications: A Consecutive Series of Thirty-one Procedures.

Introduction: Angular deformities of the tibia and femur lead to mechanical axis deviation (MAD) of the lower limb and malorientation of the joints adjacent to the deformity. The current study analyses the outcomes of using a medial closing wedge high tibial osteotomy (MCWHTO) for the management of genu valgum with high medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), and combined MCWHTO with lateral opening-wedge distal femoral osteotomy (LOWDFO) in the setting of concomitant genu varum with low lateral distal femoral angle (LDFA).

Methods: There were 18 high tibial osteotomy (HTO)-only and 13 combined HTO + distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) procedures performed.

Hypertrophic nonunion management with distraction osteogenesis: a scoping review of the literature.

Introduction: Traditionally, stiff hypertrophic nonunions have been managed with open preparation of the nonunion site, which is then secured with internal fixation. Alternative surgical options are available including distraction osteogenesis with an external fixator. There is currently a limited amount of literature pertaining to the use of distraction osteogenesis in the management of hypertrophic nonunion.

However, older and frail patients may not be candidates for surgery and chemotherapy due to the high mortality risk and are frequently referred to radiotherapy alone, which is better tolerated but carries a high risk of disease recurrence. Recently, immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) may induce a high response rate among cancer patients with positive programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression.

Strategies for adapting under pressure: an interview study in intensive care units.

Background: Healthcare systems are operating under substantial pressures. Clinicians and managers are constantly having to make adaptations, which are typically improvised, highly variable and not coordinated across teams. This study aimed to identify and describe the types of everyday pressures in intensive care and the adaptive strategies staff use to respond, with the longer-term aim of developing practical and coordinated strategies for managing under pressure.

Association of Intestinal Helminthiasis with Disseminated Leishmaniasis, Brazil.

Disseminated leishmaniasis is an emerging clinical form of Leishmania braziliensis infection. Evidence shows that co-infection by L. braziliensis and intestinal helminths does not affect clinical manifestations or response to therapy in cutaneous leishmaniasis patients.

Observation of Strong Nuclear Suppression in Exclusive J/ψ Photoproduction in Au+Au Ultraperipheral Collisions at RHIC.

We report a measurement of exclusive J/ψ and ψ(2s) photoproduction in Au+Au ultraperipheral collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV using the STAR detector. For the first time, (i) the ψ(2s) photoproduction in midrapidity at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider has been experimentally measured; (ii) nuclear suppression factors are measured for both the coherent and incoherent J/ψ production. Floundering or Flourishing? Early Insights from the Inception of Integrated Care Systems in England.

Background: In 2022, England embarked on an ambitious and innovative re-organisation to produce an integrated health and care system with a greater focus on improving population health. This study aimed to understand how nascent ICSs are developing and to identify the key challenges and enablers to integration.

Methods: Four ICSs participated in the study between November 2021 and May 2022.

Here, we report the development of small-molecule TSLP receptor inhibitors using virtual screening and docking of >1,000,000 compounds followed by iterative chemical synthesis.

Immunotherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy for older patients with non-metastatic renal cancer unfit for surgery or decline nephrectomy: practical proposal by the International Geriatric Radiotherapy Group.

The standard of care for non-metastatic renal cancer is surgical resection followed by adjuvant therapy for those at high risk for recurrences. However, for older patients, surgery may not be an option due to the high risk of complications which may result in death. In the past renal cancer was considered to be radio-resistant, and required a higher dose of radiation leading to excessive complications secondary to damage of the normal organs surrounding the cancer.
