The authors report a case of atypical extraventricular neurocytoma (EVN) transformed from EVN which had been initially diagnosed as an oligodendroglioma 15 years ago. An 8-year-old boy underwent a surgical resection for a right frontal mass which was initially diagnosed as oligodendroglioma. When the tumor recurred 15 years later, a secondary operation was performed, followed by salvage gamma knife treatment.

Electrochromic tungsten oxide (WO3) films on ITO glass were fabricated by spin-coating with a tungsten peroxy acid solution, which was prepared by adding an equivolume mixture of hydrogen peroxide and glacial acetic acid to tungsten metal powder. The structural evolution of the tungstate precursor upon heat treatment was studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analyses, which indicated that the as-synthesized tungstate transformed into nanocrystalline WO3 upon heating. It is, therefore, quite clear that as-synthesized tungstate can be a good precursor for electrochromic WO3 films.

A new strategy was attempted to fabricate CeO2 nanoparticles using the surface fluorination technique to control the particle size and suppress the catalytic activity. The fluorinated CeO2 nanoparticles are fully characterized with XRD, XANES, UV-vis spectroscopy, HR-TEM, XPS along with the evaluation of photo and thermal catalytic activities. Background And Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mutation status of PANK2 among Korean patients with pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN) and to document the outcome of pallidal deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Methods: Direct sequencing and deletion/duplication analysis of PANK2 were conducted in 12 patients (11 unrelated) with PKAN, diagnosed on the basis of extrapyramidal dysfunction and the 'eye-of-the-tiger sign' on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Transgenic (Tg) mouse models of autoimmunity have been used to express model antigens that can be recognized by T cells or by autoantibodies. To identify mechanisms of CD8-mediated tissue-specific autoimmune reactions and to identify potential treatments, we generated a double-transgenic (DTg) murine model of autoimmunity by crossing keratin-14 (K14)-soluble chicken ovalbumin (sOVA) mice, which express sOVA predominantly in external ear skin, with OT-I mice whose CD8 T cells express Vα2/Vβ5 regions of the TCR and are specific for SIINFEKL peptide (chicken ovalbumin (OVA) peptide 257-264) in association with class I major histocompatibility complex. The K14-sOVA/OT-I DTg mice develop a destructive process selectively targeting the external ear pinnae in the first 6 days of life.

In this study, rapidly reversible antibodies were produced and the binding kinetics, stability, and utility as an analytical binder were evaluated. The number of times the animals were immunized with the antigen (myoglobin as marker for acute myocardial infarction [AMI]) was limited to two, increasing the chances of producing premature antibodies that rapidly reacted with the binding partner in both association and dissociation. The rate constants were higher than 1×10(6)M(-1)s(-1) and 1×10(-3)s(-1), respectively, and the affinity exceeded 10(8)M(-1).

The photoresponse of quantum dot solar cells (QDSCs) has been successfully extended to the near-IR (NIR) region by sensitizing nanostructured TiO(2)-CdS films with a squaraine dye (JK-216). CdS nanoparticles anchored on mesoscopic TiO(2) films obtained by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) exhibit limited absorption below 500 nm with a net power conversion efficiency of ~1% when employed as a photoanode in QDSC. Studies on the synthesis of macrosphelide B via an intramolecular nitrile oxide-olefin cycloaddition (INOC) is described. In particular, an asymmetric INOC approach using phase transfer catalysts seems to be a potentially efficient and versatile procedure for the construction of the macrolactone skeleton of macrosphelide B in terms of facial selectivity. Our preliminary and unprecedented stereoselective procedure is anticipated to be usefully applied through further studies for the synthesis of the macrosphelide family.

The nature of mitochondrial dysfunction in dopaminergic neurons in familial Parkinson's disease (PD) is unknown.
