The association between the mode of death and depression in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) is far from clear. We investigated the association between depressive symptoms and the mode of death including all-cause mortality, noncardiac death, sudden cardiac death (SCD), and non-SCD in stable CAD patients. Patients with angiographically documented CAD (n = 1,928) underwent a clinical examination including screening for depression symptoms with the Depression Scale (DEPS) and extensive risk profiling at the baseline.

Anaerobic treatment of the fiber sediment was shown to be feasible, without dilution and with nitrogen and buffer supplement, at organic loading rates (OLR) up to 2.5 kg VS/md and hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 60 d resulting in methane yields of 201 ± 18 L CH/kg VS.

Surface modifications of upconverting nanoparticles are vital for shielding the obtained luminescence. Modifications also provide new possibilities for further use by introducing attaching sites for biomolecule conjugation.

A laborious and non-trivial part of constructing any KMC model is, however, to calculate all migration barriers that are needed to give the probabilities for any atom jump event to occur in the simulations. We calculated three data sets of migration barriers for Fe self-diffusion: barriers of first nearest neighbour jumps, second nearest neighbours hop-on jumps on the Fe {100} surface and a set of barriers of the diagonal exchange processes for various cases of the local atomic environments within the 2nn coordination shell.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorescence correlation and cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCS/FCCS) have enabled biologists to study processes of transport, binding, and enzymatic reactions in living cells. However, applying FCS and FCCS to samples such as whole blood and plasma is complicated as the fluorescence bursts of diffusing labels can be swamped by strong autofluorescence. Here we present cross-correlation spectroscopy based on two upconversion nanoparticles emitting at different wavelengths on the anti-Stokes side of a single excitation laser.

Unlike highly sophisticated DNA nanotechnology, this strategically simple hydrogen bonding-directed self-assembly of nanoclusters leads to octahedral nanocrystals encapsulating GNRs. Specifically, the p-mercaptobenzoic acid (pMBA)-protected atomically precise silver nanocluster, Na [Ag (pMBA) ], and pMBA-functionalized GNRs were used.

However, non-specific binding of antibody-UCNP conjugates on protein coated solid support results in background, which limits the immunoassay sensitivity. Thus, the full potential of UCNPs as reporters cannot be fully exploited.

We tracked circulating CD4+ T cells with identical epitope specificities that responded to intranasal challenge with rhinovirus (RV)-A39, and we assessed T-cell signatures in the nose.
Methods: Cells were monitored using a mixture of 2 capsid-specific major histocompatibility complex II tetramers over a 7-week period, before and after RV-A39 challenge, in 16 human leukocyte antigen-DR4+ subjects who participated in a trial of Bifidobacterium lactis (Bl-04) supplementation.
Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and diagnostic performance of intradermal contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in vulvar cancer.
Methods: Twelve consecutive patients with vulvar cancer underwent preoperatively inguinal CEUS SLN examination and guide wire marking of the enhanced lymph nodes. Altogether, 20 groins were examined with CEUS contrast agent injections including 8 bilateral groins due to midline tumours.

Thermoplastic composite materials containing wood fibers are gaining increasing interest in the manufacturing industry. One approach is to use nano- or micro-size cellulosic fibrils as additives and to improve the mechanical properties obtainable with only small fibril loadings by exploiting the high aspect ratio and surface area of nanocellulose. In this study, we used four different wood cellulose-based materials in a thermoplastic polylactide (PLA) matrix: cellulose nanofibrils produced from softwood kraft pulp (CNF) and dissolving pulp (CNFSD), enzymatically prepared high-consistency nanocellulose (HefCel) and microcellulose (MC) together with long alkyl chain dispersion-improving agents.

Circular variance (CV) values obtained using Cytospectre software to analyze the degree of orientation from AFM images showed a significantly higher degree of orientation on c- and u-CNF surfaces (average CV 0.

Of these reported metal complexes, the dysprosium analogue 2 is the first discrete bridged dinuclear lanthanide complex in which both metal centres reside in pentagonal bipyramidal environments. Interestingly, both complexes undergo significant thermal expansion upon heating from 120 K to 293 K as illustrated by single-crystal X-ray and powder diffraction experiments.

The key factor for gelation and rheological properties emerges from the fluorine-fluorine interactions between the perfluorinated chains, as the corresponding hydrocarbon derivative did not form metallogels.
