Introduction: The aim of the present study was to define indications for talectomy in congenital paralytic, dystrophic or idiopathic, inveterate or recurrent, clubfoot.
Hypothesis: Talectomy is a valid option for paralytic, dystrophic or idiopathic, inveterate or recurrent, clubfoot.
Patients And Methods: A single-center retrospective series comprised 52 clubfeet in 31 patients.
In this paper, we study the parameters that affect the generation of droplets in a microfluidic flow-focusing junction. Droplets are evaluated based on the size and frequency of generation. Droplet size control is essential for microfluidic lab-on-a-chip applications in biology, chemistry, and medicine.

However, TPO to redirect the acetabulum is often blamed for anterior and lateral overcoverage of the femoral head. The main objectives of this study were to assess the potential clinical impact, frequency, and radiological features of acetabular overcorrection.

However, limited data are available regarding ankle arthrodesis in young patients.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term clinical and radiographic results with a minimum follow-up of ten years in children with haemophilia who underwent ankle arthrodesis.
Introduction: In this study, we evaluated hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) - platelet interactions in vitro as well as human platelets antigen (HPA) polymorphisms.
Methods: Platelets were obtained from 100 healthy HPA-genotyped volunteer donors and incubated with HIV or HCV. The viral load after in vitro exposure was detected.

Droplet actuation is an essential mechanism for droplet-based microfluidic systems. On-demand electromagnetic actuation is used in a ferrofluid-based microfluidic system for water droplet displacement. Electropermanent magnets (EPMs) are used to induce 50 mT magnetic fields in a ferrofluid filled microchannel with gradients up to 6.

Background: Few published data are available on long-term outcomes of anterior spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The objective of this single-centre retrospective study was to assess clinical and radiological outcomes of one-stage anterior spinal fusion achieved using precontoured titanium anterior screw-plates.
Hypothesis: Our hypothesis was that anterior instrumentation produced both good functional outcomes and good correction in the coronal and sagittal planes.
Introduction: In haemophiliacs, recurrent hemarthrosis and chronic synovitis lead to chronic arthropathy. Synovectomy is indicated when medical treatment fails. Few studies report the results of open synovectomy of the ankle in haemophiliacs with a small number of procedures and also a limited follow-up.

Objective: To acquaint orthopedic spine surgeons with identification patterns of ischiovertebral dysplasia in order to provide them with guidelines about spine management and which complications to expect.
Summary Of Background Data: Ischiovertebral dysplasia is a rare skeletal dysplasia that may appear in a sporadic fashion or be inherited with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern.
Inter-individual variations to methotrexate (MTX) outcome have been attributed to different expression profiles of genes related to folate metabolism. To elucidate the mechanisms of variations to MTX outcome, we investigated MTHFR, DHFR, TYMS, and SLC19A1 gene expression profiles by quantifying the mRNA level of the genes involved in folate metabolism to MTX response in laryngeal cancer cell line (HEP-2). For this, three different concentrations of MTX (0.

Platelets do not express cluster differentiation 81 CD81, the main receptor for the virus in hepatocytes, although this receptor protein has been found in megakaryocytes. Still, it is not clear if HCV interacts with platelets directly or if this interaction is a consequence of its association with megakaryocytes.

However, the current treatment is only effective in 50% of patients infected with HCV genotype 1, the most prevalent genotype in Brazil. Inhibitors of the serine protease non-structural protein 3 (NS3) have therefore been developed to improve the responses of HCV-infected patients.

Obturator muscles haematoma are rarely reported. The most often reported cases are primary pyomyositis or posttraumatic haematomas occurring during pelvic fractures. We firstly report herein two cases of spontaneous obturator internus haematoma (OIH) in two haemophiliacs with inhibitor.

Introduction: Ankle valgus deformity is rare in children. It generally leads to difficulties wearing shoes, walking instability and mechanical pain. No medical treatment is effective and the only option is surgical correction of the deformity.

Method: We report a series of 23 surgical synovectomies of the knee with a median follow-up of 8.8 years.
An achondroplastic patient with a thoracolumbar kyphosis was first seen at the age of 16 at our institution. His only concern at that time was the aesthetic implication of his deformity. His physical examination was normal except for loss of the neurologic reflexes in the lower limbs.

Methods: Clinical and radiographic records of 19 children (35 hips) diagnosed with coxa vara and with osteochondrodysplasia were reviewed. We classified the hip radiographic findings into 2 groups: (a) group I, coxa vara with a fragmented and/or nonossified head; and (b) group II, coxa vara with a regular femoral head.

Purpose Of The Study: Fibrous dysplasia is a rare benign bone tumor which occurs preferentially in the proximal femur. In children, there is a risk of repeated fractures and coxa vara deformity, particularly in the polyostotic form. The most common orthopedic problem is fibrous dysplasia of the proximal femur which generally requires surgical treatment.

The hypothesis is that an analysis of comparable scoliotic curves treated by different implant systems could detect subtle differences in outcome.

Purpose Of The Study: Fracture of the anterior tibial tubercle is exceptional in adolescents. The purpose of this work was to better understand the circumstances of such fractures, identify potential complications, and assess outcome of different therapeutic options.
Material And Method: This was a retrospective analysis of a consecutive series of 22 children with avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial tubercle.
Between 1979 and 1996, 40 patients with high-grade lumbosacral spondylolisthesis were treated in our institution using a newly designed osteosynthesis device. The mean age was 13 years and 6 months, and the mean follow-up was 18 years. Combined posterior decompression and anterior reduction, instrumentation and fusion of the slippage were performed in all cases.
