This paper proposes the use of artificial intelligence techniques, specifically the nnU-Net convolutional neural network, to improve the identification of left ventricular walls in images of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, with the objective of improving the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. This work proposes a system complexity metric and its application to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) system. The methodology for applying said complexity metric comprises: (i) parameters sensitivity indices calculation, (ii) mapping connections dynamics between system components, and (iii) system's complexity calculation. After simulating the ICU computer model and using the proposed methodology, we obtained results regarding: number of admissions, number of patients in the queue, length of stay, beds in use, ICU performance, and system complexity values (in regular or overloaded operation).

In this article, the optimization of the specific urease activity (SUA) and the calcium carbonate (CaCO) using microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) was compared to optimization using three algorithms based on machine learning: random forest regressor, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and multivariate linear regression. The authors report a case of fungal otitis media complicated by extension of the infection into adjacent structures causing apical petrositis and subsequently involvement of the jugular foramen in a 71-year-old diabetic man. First described in 1907, Gradenigo's syndrome is a serious but rare clinical triad of acute otitis media, unilateral pain in the distribution of cranial nerve V (trigeminal) and ipsilateral cranial nerve VI (abducens) palsy that commonly presents without all three features and is therefore often missed. In this report, our patient was initially misdiagnosed as having a diabetic cranial neuropathy, and later he developed Vernet's syndrome.

Climate change will be an additional issue to the challenge to manage herbicide resistant weeds. This work investigated the impact of three temperature regimes (10/5, 20/15 and 30/25 °C) on the efficacy, foliar retention, absorption and translocation of fomesafen, protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor, and imazamox, acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor, between two Euphorbia heterophylla populations, one susceptible (S) and one multiple PPO and ALS resistant (R). The R population went from 5 (fomesafen) and 12 (imazamox) times more resistant than the S population at 10/5 °C to more than 100 times to both herbicides at 20/15 and 30/25 °C.
