Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Scale of the Nursing Work Index With Nurses From Seven Countries.

The aims of this study are as follows: to adapt and validate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI) adapted to the nursing home environment across seven Spanish-speaking countries and to cross-culturally adapt the Scale of the Nursing Work Index with nurses from seven countries. Adaptation process and psychometric validation of the instrument included translation and back-translation, content validity, test-retest reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity. A total of 134 nursing homes belonging to the same religious order were randomly selected from seven Spanish-speaking countries with a sample of 378 nurses.

Mindfulness-Based Intervention for the Reduction of Compassion Fatigue and Burnout in Nurse Caregivers of Institutionalized Older Persons with Dementia: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the mental health of nurses caring for institutionalized older people. Caring in this environment can be complex, with higher levels of burnout and compassion fatigue in staff. It is therefore important to find interventions to increase the well-being of staff.

Effectiveness of a telephone intervention based on motivational health coaching for improving the mental health of caregivers of people with dementia: A randomised controlled trial.

Objectives: Caring for a family member with dementia is considered one of the activities with the greatest negative impact on a person's mental health. Developing long-lasting and effective strategies is a challenge for caregivers. This study sought to evaluate the impact of an intervention based on a programme of motivational coaching delivered by telephone in a group of caregivers of patients with dementia compared to a control group.

Burnout, Compassion Fatigue and Psychological Flexibility among Geriatric Nurses: A Multicenter Study in Spain.

Nurses working at nursing homes are one of the most vulnerable populations for suffering burnout and compassion fatigue. In Spain, the concept of compassion fatigue and psychological flexibility related to stress in geriatric nurses has not been fully explored until now. It is important to analyze their situation in order to design robust coping and management strategies.

Experiences of geriatric nurses in nursing home settings across four countries in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aim: To explore the emotional impact and experiences of geriatric nurses working in nursing homes and caring for patients with coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19).

Design: This is a qualitative study with phenomenological method and data were gathered through in-depth interview.

Methods: The experiences and expectations that nurses are facing during their care duties were explored via video conference, using a semi-structured interview guide.

Retirement or no Retirement? The Decision's Effects on Cognitive Functioning, Well-Being, and Quality of Life.

Unlabelled: This study addressed the psychological effects on personal well-being and reported quality of life of staying professionally active in late adulthood, and to what extent years of professional inactivity modulates cognitive abilities.

Design And Methods: We collected data on 262 elderly adults, 129 of whom were professionally active elderly adults (who voluntarily maintained their professional activity after the age of retirement) and 133 of whom were retired adults, in a set of experimental tasks to measure basic cognitive resources. The study took place during the first quarter of 2020.

Emotional intelligence and coping styles: An intervention in geriatric nurses.

Unlabelled: Current research indicates a relationship between EI, stress, coping strategies, well-being and mental health. Emotional intelligence skills and knowledge, and coping strategies can be increased with training.

Objective: The aims of this study were to use a controlled design to test the impact of theoretically based training on the different components of EI and coping styles in a sample of nurses working with older adults.

Decisions at the end of life made by relatives of institutionalized patients with dementia.

Background: The wishes and preferences of patients with dementia should inform the decisions made about their future care. However, the decision-making that occurs at the end of life is a difficult experience for the families of patients. With regard to decision-making in the terminal stages, few studies have explored the experiences and feelings of caregivers of persons with dementia who are institutionalized.

The incidence and prognostic implications of dysphagia in elderly patients institutionalized: A multicenter study in Spain.

Aim: Determine the incidence of dysphagia, identify its consequences and objectify related complications and mortality associated with pneumonia, in the institutionalized elderly.

Methods: A prospective observational and multicenter study with a 3-year follow-up period was designed in a cohort of 12 nursing homes within 6 cities in Spain. A total of 2384 patient records were studied.

Apathy and Leukoaraiosis in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease: Multicenter Diagnostic Criteria according to the Latest Studies.

Aims: The aim is to study the prevalence and possible relationship of apathy and leukoaraiosis in cases of cognitive impairment of varying severity in Spain.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive, multicenter study involving 109 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 59 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Results: The older group with AD had a higher prevalence of leukoaraiosis and apathy, with significant differences compared to the MCI group.
