Purpose: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides an essential contribution in the screening, detection, diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up in patients with a neurological neoplasm. Deep learning (DL), a subdomain of artificial intelligence has the potential to enhance the characterization, processing and interpretation of MRI images. The aim of this review paper is to give an overview of the current state-of-art usage of DL in MRI for neuro-oncology.

For some time now, antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains have been found in the human population, in foods, in livestock and wild animals, as well as in surface waters. The entry of antibiotics and resistant bacterial strains into the environment plays an important role in the spread of antibiotic resistance. The goal of the present study was to monitor the entry of antibiotic resistances into the environment through the contamination of wastewater.

For many years, extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria were a problem mainly located in medical facilities. Within the last decade however, ESBL-producing bacteria have started spreading into the community and the environment. In this study, ESBL-producing Escherichia coli from sewage sludge were collected, analysed and compared to ESBL-E.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the major pathogen in the cystic fibrosis (CF) lung, the predominant source of its acquisition, however, is under discussion. In order to study the molecular epidemiology, we evaluated 86 P. aeruginosa isolates from 43 CF patients from southeast Austria.

To date, no outbreak of carbapenemase-producing bacteria has been reported for Austria. While outbreaks of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing K. pneumoniae have been increasingly reported, no outbreak caused by KPC-producing Klebsiella oxytoca has been described yet, to the best of our knowledge.

We report the emergence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae in Austria. Over a 10-year period, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae isolates were obtained from 13 hospitalized patients, with the first isolation in the year 2005 and a remarkable increase in the number of involved patients in 2010. Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae comprise eight Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates, four Klebsiella oxytoca isolates, and one Escherichia coli isolate.

The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of contamination of sewage sludge with ESBL-producing Escherichia coli strains and the effectiveness of different sewage sludge treatment methods. Monthly sewage sludge samples were collected between January and September 2009 in 5 different sewage treatment plants and tested for the presence of ESBL E. coli.

The Van Allen radiation belts are two regions encircling the Earth in which energetic charged particles are trapped inside the Earth's magnetic field. Their properties vary according to solar activity and they represent a hazard to satellites and humans in space. An important challenge has been to explain how the charged particles within these belts are accelerated to very high energies of several million electron volts.

The aim of the study is the evaluation of resistance patterns of E. coli in wastewater treatment plants without an evaluation of basic antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Investigations have been done in sewage, sludge and receiving waters from three different sewage treatment plants in southern Austria.

The present study investigated emissions and emmissions of airborne microorganisms (mesophilic bacteria, Escherichia coli, molds, Aspergillus fumigatus, thermophilic actinomycetes/bacilli) in sewage treatment plants. For the aerobiological investigations three sewage treatment facilities with an activated-sludge process, capacities between 2000 and 28,000 PE and different cleaning steps were selected. The measurements of microorganism emission were conducted in the area of the intake (screen), in the area of biological treatment (activated sludge tank) and at a distance of 10 m from the activated sludge tanks.

About 7-day (circaseptan) components, found at different levels of organization, notably in relation to growth, regeneration, repair and development, are often viewed as reflecting no more than the 7-day societal schedule, ample evidence for a built-in feature notwithstanding. Herein, we resolve circaseptans in geomagnetic pulsations recorded by a stand-alone magnetometer residing in Antarctica, far away from societal influences. Human physiological data, collected in the neonatal intensive care unit, show by intra-class correlation analysis that the nonlinearly assessed circaseptan period of heart rate, diastolic blood pressure and body weight is more similar between same-gender twins than among twin pairs, lending additional support for the endogenicity of circaseptans.

Intermittent hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to reduce skeletal muscle necrosis in a compartment syndrome animal model. To study whether intermittent exposure to hyperbaric oxygen augments antivenin therapy in reducing muscle necrosis, we injected sublethal doses of Western Diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) venom intramuscularly into the hind legs of New Zealand White rabbits. In this pilot study, the animals were divided into three treatment groups.

We performed coagulation profiles including a complete blood count (CBC), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), and quantitation of fibrinogen, antithrombin III (AT III), plasminogen, and fibrin/fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) on 73 cancer patients. All had solid tumors with clinically documented metastases. Eleven patients had strong clinical and laboratory evidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).

Within the WHO/FAC Coordinated Research Programme on Wildlife Rabies, a comprehensive survey of all costs involved in wildlife rabies and its control was carried out from 1972 to 1974 by the Government of the Land Nordrhein-Westfalen with the support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and in collaboration with the World Health Organization. For extrapolation of data, administrative costs at the level of the State government and the provinces are considered as relatively constant figures, whereas all other cost components appear to depend largely on the local epidemiological conditions in counties and communities, e.g.
