Lyme Neuroborreliosis-Significant Local Variations in Incidence within a Highly Endemic Region in Sweden.

The aim of this study was to perform a detailed epidemiological overview of Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) 2008-2021 in a highly Lyme borreliosis-endemic area in Sweden using a geographic information system (GIS). Diagnosis of LNB was based on clinical symptoms and analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) according to European guidelines. From laboratory databases and medical records, we detected all patients with CSF pleocytosis and intrathecal anti- antibody production and listed clinical features.

Development of asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation-multi angle laser light scattering analysis for molecular mass characterization of cationic potato amylopectin.

The goal of this study is to investigate the applicability of asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF)-multi angle laser light scattering (MALLS), and to develop a method for analysis of cationic potato amylopectin (CPAP) having ultrahigh molecular mass (UHMr). Use of the aqueous carrier having low salt content (3 mM NaN3) resulted in a distortion in AsFlFFF fractograms of CPAP with a general pattern of a sharp rise at the beginning of the elution followed by a long tailing, probably due to combination of attractive and repulsive charge interactions (attractive interaction between CPAP molecules and the channel membrane, and repulsion among cationic CPAP molecules). As the cross flow-rate (Fc) increases, the tailing tends to increase, and the repeatability of the AsFlFFF retention data tends to decrease, which is an indication of the presence of the charge interactions.

A German-Swedish collection of histopathological slides from 1893.

A collection of 159 histopathological slides from 1893 was studied as to origin, condition and documentary value. The slides were dated in Leipzig, Germany, September 26-October 10, 1893. They had apparently been studied jointly by a Swedish veterinary surgeon (Knut August Hjalmar Dahlström) and one or several unknown German colleagues of his in Leipzig, and labelled with their diagnoses.

The occurrence of tularemia was studied in 1,500 hares submitted to the National Veterinary Institute, Uppsala, Sweden for postmortem examination during 1973 through 1985. A total of 109 tularemia cases was recorded based on the fluorescent antibody (FA) test for Francisella tularensis and on the gross and microscopic pathology. Tularemia was diagnosed only in the varying hare (Lepus timidus) and not in the European brown hare (Lepus europaeus).
