Current recommendations for syphilis screening and treatment may be insufficient, and there is a pressing need for improved programs and services to address the increase in cases. A scoping review was conducted to examine approaches to maternal syphilis screening and treatment.

The mental health of Australians bereaved during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic: a latent class analysis.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many areas of life, including culturally accepted practices at end-of-life care, funeral rites, and access to social, community, and professional support. This survey investigated the mental health outcomes of Australians bereaved during this time to determine how these factors might have impacted bereavement outcomes.

Methods: An online survey indexing pandemic and bereavement experiences, levels of grief, depression, anxiety, and health, work, and social impairment.

Revision total knee replacement finances: a detailed cost-analysis of operative practice at a regional tertiary referral centre.

Background: The revision knee complexity classification (RKCC) stratifies knee revision operations depending on their level of complexity from simple revisions (R1) to highly complex cases (R3). Current financial codes used for calculation of reimbursement for knee revision services provided at the Trust, rely on patients' comorbidities. However, previous research has demonstrated that this approach may not yield an accurate financial account of knee revision arthroplasty cost.

Breast Cancer Screening and BI-RADS Scoring Trends Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic in an Academic Safety-Net Hospital.

Background: Little is known about how the COVID-19 pandemic affected screening mammography rates and Breast Imaging Reporting and Data Systems (BI-RADS) categorizations within populations facing social and economic inequities. Our study seeks to compare trends in breast cancer screening and BI-RADS assessments in an academic safety-net patient population before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patients And Methods: Our single-center retrospective study evaluated women ≥ 18 years old with no known breast cancer diagnosis who received breast cancer screening from March 2019-September 2020.

AMBERff at Scale: Multimillion-Atom Simulations with AMBER Force Fields in NAMD.

All-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are an essential structural biology technique with increasing application to multimillion-atom systems, including viruses and cellular machinery. Classical MD simulations rely on parameter sets, such as the AMBER family of force fields (AMBERff), to accurately describe molecular motion. Here, we present an implementation of AMBERff for use in NAMD that overcomes previous limitations to enable high-performance, massively parallel simulations encompassing up to two billion atoms.

Neonatal epidermolysis bullosa: a clinical practice guideline.

DEBRA International is undertaking a long-term initiative to develop clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for epidermolysis bullosa (EB), to -improve the clinical care of people living with EB. Current neonatal care is based on evidence, clinical expertise and trial and error, with collaboration between the EB specialist team, parent or carer and patient, and is dependent on the neonate's individual presentation and type of EB. Early intervention based on research and clinical practice is needed to establish a foundation of knowledge to guide international practitioners to create and improve standards of care and to be able to work effectively with those newly diagnosed with EB.

Influence of Tumor-Treating Fields in a Young Patient With Primary Spinal Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM): A Case Report of a Rare Tumor.

We present a 31-year-old female patient with primary glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) of the thoracic spine, diagnosed in approximately mid-2020. Her symptoms began several months prior with right foot paresthesia, which progressed to neuropathy ascending from her distal to proximal right lower extremity. Over several months, she developed lumbo-thoracic throbbing pain, which was dermatomal radiating anteriorly.

Previous studies on TPM clonality show conflicting results. This study was performed to determine whether TPM is clonal on a tumor-wide scale.

Imaging Preferences in Women With a History of Breast Cancer Receiving Contrast-Enhanced Mammography.

Objective: There is interest in contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) to screen breast cancer survivors, yet it is unclear whether they would accept CEM as their annual exam. The purpose of this study was to understand patient preferences to guide CEM implementation for screening.

Methods: Consecutive women with breast cancer history who had CEM as their annual mammogram from July 2020 to August 2021 at a single academic institution completed an 18-question survey regarding prior contrast imaging, CEM experience, and comparison to other breast imaging exams.

Breast Imaging Fellowship Training in the United States: A National Survey of Fellowship Program Directors.

Objective: To provide an updated characterization of breast imaging fellowship programs in the United States to identify opportunities for improvement and standardization.

Methods: An anonymous survey was e-mailed to program directors of breast imaging fellowship programs listed on the Society of Breast Imaging website. The survey was open from April 23, 2021, through May 27, 2021.

The Social, Mental, and Physical Health Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on People With HIV: Protocol of an Observational International Multisite Study.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world, immunocompromised individuals such as people with HIV (PWH) may have faced a disproportionate impact on their health and HIV outcomes, both from COVID-19 and from the strategies enacted to contain it. Based on the SPIRIT guidelines, we describe the protocol for an international multisite observational study being conducted by The International Nursing Network for HIV Research, with the Coordinating Center based at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing. Site Principal Investigators implement a standardized protocol to recruit PWH to complete the study online or in-person.

Aβ Amyloid Scaffolds the Accumulation of Matrisome and Additional Proteins in Alzheimer's Disease.

We report a highly significant correlation in brain proteome changes between Alzheimers disease (AD) and CRND8 APP695NL/F transgenic mice. However, integrating protein changes observed in the CRND8 mice with co-expression networks derived from human AD, reveals both conserved and divergent module changes. For the most highly conserved module (M42, matrisome) we find many proteins accumulate in plaques, cerebrovascular amyloid (CAA), dystrophic processes, or a combination thereof.

A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial of sterile filtered human amniotic fluid for treatment of COVID-19.

Importance: Acellular human amniotic fluid (hAF) is an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory fluid that has been used to treat various pro-inflammatory conditions. In a feasibility study, we have previously demonstrated that hAF could be safely administered to severely ill patients with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). The impact of acellular hAF on markers of systemic inflammation and clinical outcomes during COVID-19 infection remain unknown.

Novel data-driven subtypes and stages of brain atrophy in the ALS-FTD spectrum.

Background: TDP-43 proteinopathies represent a spectrum of neurological disorders, anchored clinically on either end by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal degeneration (FTD). The ALS-FTD spectrum exhibits a diverse range of clinical presentations with overlapping phenotypes, highlighting its heterogeneity. This study was aimed to use disease progression modeling to identify novel data-driven spatial and temporal subtypes of brain atrophy and its progression in the ALS-FTD spectrum.

Brief report on the efficacy of sotorasib in KRAS-Mutated NSCLC patients with brain metastases.

Introduction: Sotorasib has emerged as a treatment option for patients with KRAS-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, its effect in patients with brain metastases is not well described. We assessed the intracranial response of sotorasib in a retrospective case series of patients with brain metastases (BMs) at a single institution.

Methods: Patients with KRAS-mutated NSCLC with BMs who received sotorasib at Mass General Brigham Hospitals were included.

Exploring Maternal and Infant Health App Development and Effectiveness Research: Scoping Review.

Background: Globally, high rates of maternal and infant mortality call for interventions during the perinatal period to engage pregnant people as well as their loved ones in care. Mobile health technologies have become ubiquitous in our lives and in health care settings. However, there is a need to further explore their safety and effectiveness to support and improve health outcomes locally and globally.

Improved stability second harmonic conversion of a diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser at the 0.5 kW level.

We report on efficient and stable, type-I phase-matched second harmonic conversion of a nanosecond high-energy, diode-pumped, Yb:YAG laser. With a frequency-doubling crystal in an enclosed, temperature controller with optical windows, 0.5% energy stability was achieved for approximately half an hour.
