Introduction: Patients diagnosed with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) often struggle with a heavy symptom burden that compromises their quality of life. Introduction of specialty palliative care (PC) may help address these issues but is underutilized in ESLD. This study aimed to assess the performance of the surprise question (SQ) in this population as a potential screen to identify patients with a life expectancy of less than 12 months.

We report initial safety and efficacy outcomes in the first cohort of patients treated with this novel device.
Methods: Prospective clinical and radiological data were collected for all patients treated with the Artisse ISD at three Austrian neurovascular centers from July 2023 to August 2024.
Background: Status epilepticus (SE) is a severe neurological condition that might lead to long-term consequences such as neuronal death. This study investigated whether SE leads to brain volume loss by characterizing the dynamic of peri-ictal MRI abnormalities (PMA) through follow-up MRIs and assessing whether SE duration and specific outcome characteristics are associated with brain atrophy.
Methods: A prospective single-center cohort study enrolled 590 adult patients with definitive or possible SE.
Centrifuges provide a fast approach to quantify embolism resistance of xylem in vulnerability curves (VCs). Since embolism formation is assumingly driven by pressure only, spin time is not standardised for flow centrifuge experiments. Here, we explore to what extent embolism resistance could be spin-time dependent, and hypothesise that changes in hydraulic conductivity (Kh) would shift VCs towards higher water potential (Ψ) values over time.

This paper presents a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based enhancement to inter prediction in Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Our approach aims at improving the prediction signal of inter blocks with a residual CNN that incorporates spatial and temporal reference samples. It is motivated by the theoretical consideration that neural network-based methods have a higher degree of signal adaptivity than conventional signal processing methods and that spatially neighboring reference samples have the potential to improve the prediction signal by adapting it to the reconstructed signal in its immediate vicinity.

Here, we hypothesise that embolism spread involves gas diffusion in xylem, and is affected by time. We measured hydraulic conductivity (K) in flow-centrifuge experiments over 1 h at a given pressure and temperature for stem samples of three angiosperm species.

This study aimed to utilize interpretable machine learning (ML) to help clarify these uncertainties.
Methods: This retrospective study involved patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO)-related ischemic stroke who underwent MT.
Background: Stroke resulting from occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) can have devastating consequences, potentially leading to a loss of independence. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the distance to the thrombus (DT) and both ischemic lesion volume (ILV) and clinical outcomes.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated patients with thromboembolic MCA M1 segment occlusion who underwent neurovascular imaging followed by endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) at two comprehensive stroke centers over a 3-year period (2018-2020).
Objective: Status epilepticus (SE) is frequently associated with peri-ictal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) abnormalities (PMA). However, the anatomical distribution of these alterations has not been systematically studied. The aim of this study was to assess the localization patterns of PMA in patients with SE.

Introduction: Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and concomitant usage of intravenous alteplase (alteplase) in large vessel occlusion stroke may produce unwanted excess intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Whether this applies specifically to isolated occlusion of the M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) is unknown.
Methods: A retrospective study from two tertiary thrombectomy centers.
Objectives: Assessing the diagnostic reliability, validity, and accuracy of the hydraulic contrast lift protocol during transcrestal sinus floor elevation in detecting the lift and perforation of the sinus membrane before graft material application and assessing the effect of its use on the operator's diagnostic confidence.
Material And Methods: A single-blind randomized split-mouth study on fresh refrigerated sheep heads. The first intervention consisted of injecting 0.
Background And Aim: The clinical importance and management of vasospasm as a complication during endovascular stroke treatment (EVT) has not been well studied. We sought to investigate current expert opinions in neurointervention and therapeutic strategies of iatrogenic vasospasm during EVT.
Methods: We conducted an anonymous international online survey (4 April 2023 to 15 May 2023) addressing treatment standards of neurointerventionalists (NIs) practising EVT.
Copy prediction is a renowned category of prediction techniques in video coding where the current block is predicted by copying the samples from a similar block that is present somewhere in the already decoded stream of samples. Motion-compensated prediction, intra block copy, template matching prediction etc. are examples.

In this prospective study, we aimed to characterize the spectrum of PMA in a large cohort of patients with status epilepticus.
Methods: We prospectively recruited 206 patients with SE and an acute MRI.
Objective: The authors compared the Contour Neurovascular System (Contour) with the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device for the treatment of wide-necked cerebral aneurysms at a bifurcation or sidewall.
Methods: Prospective clinical and radiological data were collected for all patients treated with either the Contour or WEB at a tertiary university hospital from May 2018 to June 2022.
Results: In patients who had at least 3 months of follow-up data available (median patient age 60.

In Eagle syndrome, elongated styloid processes may provoke internal carotid dissection and pseudoaneurysm causing stroke and data regarding possible complications or long-term results of pseudoaneurysm treatment using a flow diverter are limited. We report a case of a dissection-related pseudoaneurysm in the left cervical carotid artery treated by implantation of a flow diverter. Follow-up imaging of the flow diverter showed fracture of a continuous radiopaque marker at 3 months and fracture of a second continuous radiopaque marker at 7 months, while contrasting of the vessel was preserved.

To perform such experiments safely, a battery abuse-test chamber has been developed and installed at the microtomography beamline ID19 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The chamber provides the capability to robustly perform in situ abuse tests through the heat-resistant and gas-tight design for flexible battery geometries and configurations, including single-cell and multi-cell assemblies.

Case Presentation: We report a case of an 81-year-old Central European man who presented with a dissection-related occlusion of the left carotid artery.
Background And Purpose: Distinction between acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and status epilepticus (SE) on MRI can be challenging as restricted diffusion may occur in both conditions. In this study, we aimed to test a tool, which could help in differentiating AIS from SE when restricted diffusion was present on MRI.
Materials And Methods: In diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) with a b-value of 1,000 and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps, we compared the ratios of intensities of gray values of diffusion-restricted lesions to the healthy mirror side in patients with AIS and SE.
Meningeal metastasis has been reported as a very rare cause of chronic subdural hematoma (CSH). Here, we report a female patient who had undergone initial burr hole drainage of a CSH at an outside hospital. Postoperatively, the patient additionally suffered from visual impairment due to bilateral papilledema and the patient was eventually transferred to our neurosurgical department for additional treatment.
