Articulating conjunctural analysis.

In dialogue with responses to my article on the emergent practice of conjunctural methodologies, I pick up the question of collaboration and the shared challenges of developing, in a deliberative and reflexive manner, this demanding approach to problem specification, research design, and contextual theorizing. Although explicit engagement with conjunctural methodologies is a relatively recent phenomenon, its connections and resonances with geographical research practice run deeper. This means that there is much for geographers to give as well as to gain from the interdisciplinary conversation around conjunctural analysis.

Trauma Informed Care: Practical Application for Pediatric-Focused Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.

Trauma-informed care (TIC) is an essential holistic framework for pediatric-focused advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to understand, recognize, and respond to children and families who have experienced trauma while resisting re-traumatization. TIC allows APRNs to engage with children with an understanding of how trauma impacts well-being. Universal adoption of TIC is prudent; it assumes all patients experience some degree of trauma and disclosure is limited.

In conversation with Quinn Slobodian's , the commentary explores the book's innovative but for the most part implicit methodological and expositional strategy, reflecting on some of the implications for the geographical analysis of ideas and ideation. Ideation certainly matters, but never mechanically or predictably, so the challenging questions concern how to specify, and to assign explanatory weight to, particular ideas in particular situations.

Incidence of Concurrent Cerebral Desaturation and Electroencephalographic Burst Suppression in Cardiac Surgery Patients.

Background: Increased intraoperative electroencephalographic (EEG) burst suppression is associated with postoperative delirium. Cerebral desaturation is considered as one of the factors associated with burst suppression. Our study investigates the association between cerebral desaturation and burst suppression by analyzing their concurrence.

Cardiac index as a surrogate marker for anxiety in pediatric patients undergoing ambulatory endoscopy: a prospective cohort study.

Pediatric patients undergoing medical procedures often grapple with preoperative anxiety, which can impact postoperative outcomes. While healthcare providers subjectively assess anxiety, objective quantification tools remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate two objective measures-cardiac index (CI) and heart rate (HR) in comparison with validated subjective assessments, the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS) and the numeric rating scale (NRS).

A place to start?

How do economic geographers determine where to begin their research projects, where to locate and delimit their case studies, where and how to "cut in" to problems? In the absence of self-evident or pregiven answers to these questions, the problem-cum-choice of where and how to start is inescapably tangled up with issues of preliminary conceptualization and indeed theorization, since cases are not so much found as made, being in various ways coproduced with different "theory-method packages." There is (and can be) no singular or universal answer to these questions. Instead, this brief intervention outlines one rationale for getting "started," founded as such rationales should be with reference a particular approach or mode of theorization.

Motivation toward vasectomy based on abortion law changes in Oklahoma.

Introduction: In May 2022, lawmakers in Oklahoma passed House Bill 4327, which outlawed abortion after fertilization. The governor signed the bill on May 25, 2022. It is uncertain whether these changes will motivate more men in Oklahoma to undergo vasectomy.

The effect of whole blood resuscitation on in-hospital mortality: A propensity score weighted analysis of patients treated at a Level I trauma center.

Background: Whole blood (WB) transfusion, compared with blood component therapy (CT), has been shown to have superior outcomes in the military population. However, whether this translates to the civilian population remains understudied. This study sought to determine the effect of WB on short-term in-hospital outcomes.

Implementing contingency management into rural recovery housing: recommendations of a professional advisory expert panel.

Rural areas in the United States have been severely impacted by recent rises in substance use related mortality and psychosocial consequences. There is a dearth of treatment resources to address substance use disorder (SUD). Rural recovery houses (RRH) are important services that provide individuals with SUD with an environment where they can engage in recovery-oriented activities, but dropout rates are unacceptably high, and evidence-based interventions such as contingency management (CM) may reduce dropout and improve outcomes for RRH residents.

Impact of Quitline Services on Tobacco Cessation: An Application of Modern Epidemiological Methods.

This study investigated the effectiveness of quitline service intensity (high vs. low) on past 30-day tobacco abstinence at 7-months follow-up, using observational data from the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline (OTH) between April 2020 and December 2021. To assess the impact of loss to follow-up and non-random treatment assignment, we fit the parameters of a marginal structural model to estimate inverse probability weights for censoring (IPCW) and treatment (IPTW) and combined (IPCTW).

Intraoperative and Postoperative Outcomes of Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty With Prior Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Matched Cohort Analysis.

Background: Previous anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a risk factor for the development of knee osteoarthritis. Despite advances in ACL reconstruction (ACLR) techniques, many patients with history of ACLR develop end-stage osteoarthritis necessitating total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of prior ACLR on intraoperative and postoperative outcomes of TKA.

Effect of prematurely elevated late follicular progesterone on pregnancy outcomes following ovarian stimulation-intrauterine insemination for unexplained infertility: secondary analysis of the AMIGOS trial.

Study Question: What is the relationship between late follicular phase progesterone levels and clinic pregnancy and live birth rates in couples with unexplained infertility undergoing ovarian stimulation with IUI (OS-IUI)?

Summary Answer: Late follicular progesterone levels between 1.0 and <1.5 ng/ml were associated with higher live birth and clinical pregnancy rates while the outcomes in groups with higher progesterone levels did not differ appreciably from the <1.

Although school nurses are exceptionally positioned to identify and respond to trafficking, most lack training and resources in this critical area. Background: Vaccination during pregnancy reduces the incidence of infections and their associated adverse outcomes in both mothers and infants. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has recommended influenza and Tdap vaccination during pregnancy since 2004 and 2013, respectively. Accurate and timely intervention in the justice system is particularly critical in rural communities, given documented barriers to accessible, evidence-based services for youth. As youth in the juvenile justice system have a high prevalence of behavioral health needs, accurate assessment of those needs is a critical first step in linking youth to appropriate care. The goal of the current study is to examine the reliability of a brief assessment (the Brief Problem Checklist [BPC]) among a sample of 222 justice-involved youth and their caregivers who primarily reside in rural communities in the United States.

Child Trafficking: What School Nurses Need to Know.

Human trafficking is a severe form of child abuse and maltreatment. Cases are pervasive and no demographic, socioeconomic status, community, or school is immune. The most effective response to human trafficking in school settings requires increased awareness and establishing policies, protocols, and procedures that support collaborative response to suspected human trafficking.
