Shroom is a family of related proteins linked to the actin cytoskeleton, and one of them, xShroom1, is constitutively expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes which is required for the expression of the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC). On the other hand, ENaC and the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) are co-expressed in many types of cells with a negative or positive interaction depending on the studied tissues. Purpose: X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) deficiency, also known as the X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome of type 2 (XLP-2), is a rare immunodeficiency characterized by recurrent hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, splenomegaly, and inflammatory bowel disease. Variants in XIAP including missense, non-sense, frameshift, and deletions of coding exons have been reported to cause XIAP deficiency. Background: Diffuse midline gliomas (DMG) H3K27M-mutant, including diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), are pediatric brain tumors associated with grim prognosis. Although GD2-CAR T-cells demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity against DMG H3K27M-mutant in vivo, a multimodal approach may be needed to more effectively treat patients. Glioblastoma multiforme is a malignant primary brain tumor with a poor prognosis and high rates of chemo-radiotherapy failure, mainly due to a small cell fraction with stem-like properties (GSCs). The mechanisms underlying GSC response to radiation need to be elucidated to enhance sensitivity to treatments and to develop new therapeutic strategies. In a previous study, two GSC lines, named line #1 and line #83, responded differently to carbon ions and photon beams, with the differences likely attributable to their own different metabolic fingerprint rather than to radiation type.

This study investigated the association between COVID-19 infection and host metabolic signatures as prognostic markers for disease severity and mortality. We enrolled 82 patients with RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 infection who were classified as mild, moderate, or severe/critical based upon their WHO clinical severity score and compared their results with 31 healthy volunteers. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is a tumor cell-selective radiotherapy based on a nuclear reaction that occurs when the isotope boron-10 (B) is radiated by low-energy thermal neutrons or epithermal neutrons, triggering a nuclear fission response and enabling a selective administration of irradiation to cells. Hence, we need to create novel delivery agents containing B with high tumor selectivity, but also exhibiting low intrinsic toxicity, fast clearance from normal tissue and blood, and no pharmaceutical effects. In the past, boronated monoclonal antibodies have been proposed using large boron-containing molecules or dendrimers, but with no investigations in relation to maintaining antibody specificity and structural and functional features.

A multigene polysaccharide utilization locus (PUL) encoding enzymes and surface carbohydrate (glycan)-binding proteins (SGBPs) was recently identified in prominent members of in the human gut and characterized in Bacteroides ovatus. This PUL-encoded system specifically targets mixed-linkage β1,3-1,4-glucans, a group of diet-derived carbohydrates that promote a healthy microbiota and have potential as prebiotics. The BoSGBP-A protein encoded by the gene is a SusD-like protein that plays a key role in the PUL's specificity and functionality.

Early life adversity (ELA) comprises a wide variety of negative experiences during early life and has been linked to cognitive impairments, reduced experiences of pleasure (anhedonia), and other long-term consequences implying that ELA impacts the reward circuitry. In this study, we focused on the projections from the dorsal raphe (DR) to the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and on to the nucleus accumbens (NAcc), an important pathway within the reward circuit. We hypothesized that ELA alters connectivity within the DR-VTA-NAcc pathway, associated with deficient reward seeking behaviors in adulthood.
