Because 20-30% of patients with sepsis deteriorate to critical illness, biomarkers that provide accurate early prognosis may identify which patients need more intensive treatment versus safe early discharge. The objective was to test the performance of sVEGFR2, suPAR and PCT, alone or combined with clinical signs and symptoms, for the prediction of clinical deterioration. This prospective observational study enrolled patients with suspected infection who met SIRS criteria without organ dysfunction (delta SOFA <2 from baseline) from 16 emergency departments.

Background: Mountainous areas pose a challenge for the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) chain of survival. Survival rates for OHCAs in mountainous areas may differ depending on the location. Increased survival has been observed compared to standard location when OHCA occurred on ski slopes.

Our main objective was to compare the pre-hospital response to calls received from cancer and non-cancer patients. We also compared the reasons for calling, for each group.

The Thrombosis Risk Prediction for Patients with Cast Immobilisation-TRiP(cast)-score could identify a large subgroup of patients at low risk of venous thromboembolism for whom prophylactic anticoagulation can be safely withheld. We aimed to prospectively assess the safety of withholding anticoagulation for patients with lower limb trauma at low risk of venous thromboembolism, defined by a TRiP(cast) score of less than 7.

Methods: Patients subjected to US-PICT for extra-shoulder calcific tendinitis (Case Group) were compared to those subjected to US-PICT of the rotator cuff (Control Group). We had pre-procedure Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain score, 1- and 3-month VAS of patients of the Case Group, pre-procedure and 3-month VAS of patients of the Control Group.
Variations in the shape and size of teeth have been associated with changes in enamel ultrastructure across odontocetes. Characterizing these features in extinct taxa can elucidate their functional morphology and feeding strategy, while also shedding light into macroevolutionary patterns during the evolutionary history of cetaceans. This study aimed to (1) describe the enamel and dentine ultrastructure of the Early Miocene odontocetes Notocetus vanbenedeni and Phoberodon arctirostris from Patagonia (Argentina) and (2) quantify tooth and enamel ultrastructure morphological disparity among odontocetes.

This study assessed whether automated O titration was superior to fixed-flow O to improve exertional dyspnea and walking exercise endurance. We also aimed at evaluating possible additive effects of high-flow nasal cannula coupled with automated O titration on these outcomes.

Purpose: The precise effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs on the neuroendocrine hydro-electrolytic regulation are not precisely understood. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate, in healthy subjects, the neuroendocrine response of the antidiuretic system to intravenous diclofenac infusion.
Methods: For this single-blinded, cross-over study, we recruited 12 healthy subjects (50% women).
Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) may complicate transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and could be linked to atheroembolization associated with catheter manipulation in the supra-renal (SR) aorta. We sought to determine the impact of SR aortic atheroma burden (SR-AAB) and composition, as well as of the aortic valve calcium score (AV-CS), measured at pre-operative multislice computed tomography (PO-MSCT), on AKI-TAVR.
Methods: All TAVR-patients 3 January-2018 to December-2020 were included.
Objectives: To describe management, and to assess factors associated with antithrombotic prescription thereafter in patients who had epistaxis referred to emergency department (ED).
Design: Prospective cohort study. From EDs, clinical, biological and hospital data were collected.
Background: Efficient ventilation is important during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Nevertheless, there is insufficient knowledge on how the patient's position affects ventilatory parameters during mechanically assisted CPR. We studied ventilatory parameters at different positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) levels and when using an inspiratory impedance valve (ITD) during horizontal and head-up CPR (HUP-CPR).

Poor injection technique represents the main risk factor for lipodystrophies. In order to enhance the patient’s insulin injection technique to heal lipodystrophy, improve psychological indices, and promote involvement in their health and care, the efficacy of emerging person-centered care called the IARA model was tested.

These "space-time" constraints can influence the training's duration, methodology and results. A remote caregiving system (Videodialysis) in our Center has proved to be effective and safe in remotely guiding patients/caregivers with cognitive/psychological barriers to self-care-PD.

Subsequently, its use was extended to the clinical follow-up of critical patients (VD-Clinical), problems relating to transport to the Center (VD-Transport), and since 2016 for training/retraining all patients (VD-Training). Since 2017 other Centers have employed VD using modalities analyzed in this paper.

Endotracheal intubation is the gold standard to protect airways, but supraglottic airway devices (SGA) may provide some protection with less training. Bag-mask ventilation (BMV) is the most common method used by rescuers.

Currently, there is a lack of reliable markers beyond TNM to deliver a personalized treatment in a cancer setting where the goal is a curative treatment. Here, we performed an integrated characterization of the predictive and prognostic role of clinical features, mismatch-repair deficiency markers, HER2, CDX2, PD-L1 expression, and CD3CD8 tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) coupled with targeted DNA sequencing of 76 non-metastatic RC patients assigned to total mesorectal excision upfront (TME; n = 15) or neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy treatment (nCRT; n = 61) followed by TME.

Our objectives were to determine the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder among avalanche survivors and to evaluate post-traumatic stress disorder risks factors as well as the impact on quality of life.
Methods: A multicentre study was conducted in victims included in the North Alpine Avalanche Registry from 2014 to 2018.

Background: There are few reports on major gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding among patients receiving an antithrombotic.
Aim: To describe clinical characteristics, bleeding locations, management and in-hospital mortality related to these events.
Methods: Over a three-year period, we prospectively identified 1080 consecutive adult patients admitted in two tertiary care hospitals between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015 for major GI bleeding while receiving an antithrombotic.
Locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) remains a medical challenge. Reliable biomarkers to predict which patients will significantly respond to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) have not been identified. We evaluated baseline genomic and transcriptomic features to detect differences that may help predict response to nCRT.

All patients over 40 presenting at two university hospital emergency departments (Montréal Qc, Grenoble Fr) from March 2008 to September 2014 with dyspnea, abdominal pain or trauma were retrieved, and COPD patients were selected. Our primary endpoint was a composite criterion including invasive ventilation and death.

Purpose: Fatty liver disease is associated with cardiometabolic disorders and represents a potential key comorbidity in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Some intermediary mechanisms of fatty liver disease (including its histological component steatosis) include tissue hypoxia, low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress that are key features of COPD. Despite these shared physiological pathways, the effect of COPD on the prevalence of hepatic steatosis, and the association between hepatic steatosis and comorbidities in this population remain unclear.
