The integrity of esophageal epithelial cells in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or GERD-like symptoms is the first mechanism of protection to decrease the sensitivity to gastric reflux and heartburn symptoms. We investigated the protective effects of Poliprotect (PPRO), a CE-marked medical device, on esophageal epithelial integrity using in vitro and ex vivo models. In vitro, the protective effects of PPRO were tested on Caco-2 cells.

However, little is still known about the impact of psychological, cognitive, and social-support variables on subjective disability. This study is aimed at exploring the role of clinical, psychological, cognitive, and social-support variables in predicting disability levels as perceived by persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS).

Methods: a cross-sectional study in Brazil between August/2020 and March/2021. We utilized the EPI-APS COVID-19 instrument and its adapted version for resident professionals.
Background And Purpose: Muscle strength, power, and mass decline with aging, leading to functional loss highly correlated with balance and falls in older adults. Lower limb muscle function is critical for fall prevention in older adults, and hip abductor force and rapid force development have been shown to be important during stepping tasks. However, it remains unclear whether hip abductor muscle function changes with aging.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques that target genes underlying diverse phenotypic traits or groups of diseases are helping reduce these delays; (2) Methods: We used a combination of biochemical (thin-layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry), NGS (resequencing gene panels) and splicing assays to achieve a complete diagnosis of three patients with suspected metachromatic leukodystrophy, a neurologic lysosomal disorder; (3) Results: Affected individuals in each family were homozygotes for harmful variants in the gene, one of them novel (c.854+1dup, in family 1) and the other already described (c.

Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of an intimate cleansing gel containing chlorhexidine, hyaluronic acid, and other anti-inflammatory agents (Antroclean Fisioderm) on postoperative pain, itching, and wound healing in patients who had undergone this procedure.
Methods: This multicenter observational case-control study involved a cohort of consecutive adult patients who underwent hemorrhoidectomy using an ultrasound device.
Purpose: This study investigated the long-term efficacy of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate-metacryloxysulpholane (NBCA-MS) for varicocele embolization (VE) without using a microcatheter.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on male patients who underwent VE with NBCA-MS for grade III-IV varicocele between January 2016 and December 2022. Patients were categorized by the catheter type used.

Background: Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is the most prevalent muscle disease in adults for which no current treatment exists. The pathogenesis of IBM remains poorly defined. In this study, we aimed to explore the interplay between inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in IBM.

We established a half-day multimodal treatment program for post-COVID patients at the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at General Hospital Nuremberg, Paracelsus Medical University, Germany.
Methods: This observational study between January 2022 and March 2023 comprised baseline documentation of Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQD), ICD-10 Symptom Rating (ISR), Fatigue Scale (FS) and Health Status Questionnaire (SF-12) at admission and discharge of 65 patients suffering from post-COVID.
: Self-sampling is recognized as a viable alternative to clinician-sampling for HPV primary screening. This study aimed to assess, within an Italian organized cervical cancer screening program, the acceptance and ease of use of self-sampling and the adherence to follow-up. The prevalences of HPV infection, cervical dysplasia, and cancer were contextually evaluated.

Intensive longitudinal designs are ideal for examining and intervening in substance use behavior in real time but rely on high participant compliance in the study protocol, representing a significant challenge for researchers.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of including a personalized data dashboard (DD) in a text-based survey prompt on study compliance outcomes among college students participating in a 21-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study.
Background And Purpose: Resistance training exercise provides increases in muscle size and is used by coaches and health care professional as a tool to improve functional performance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of 10 weeks of resistance training program performed on the bench press (BP) exercise on the hypertrophic responses of four different muscles (pectoralis major, anterior and medial deltoid, brachii, and pectoralis minor) involved in the task compared to controls.
Methods: Twenty-four healthy males were recruited, and thirteen performed a resistance training intervention while eleven were control.
MXenes have excellent properties as electrode materials in energy storage devices or fuel cells. In bioelectrochemical systems (for wastewater treatment and energy harvesting), MXenes can have antimicrobial characteristics in some conditions. Here, different intercalation and delamination approaches to obtain TiCT MXene flakes with different terminal groups and lateral dimensions are comprehensively investigated.

A promising control strategy to manage the proliferation of H. halys is based on the suppression of its obligate and vertically transmitted uncultivated symbiotic bacterium Candidatus Pantoea carbekii through surface-sterilization of H.

Therefore, we compared MU discharge characteristics and RFD during rapid contractions in chronic ST and UT individuals. The investigations were performed in two independent cohorts of chronically ST men, with trained elbow flexors (, = 13, 6 ± 4 yr of training experience) or knee extensors (, = 11, 9 ± 4 yr of experience), and compared with those of UT ( = 12 and = 10, respectively).

Background: In acute heart failure (AHF) patients, non-invasive estimation of left ventricular filling pressures (LVFPs) appears crucial to guide management. Although poorly investigated, left atrial (LA) mechanics play a pivotal role in this setting. This report sought to assess the correlation of echocardiographic LA stiffness index with invasive LVFPs and its diagnostic accuracy as compared to other parameters used in clinical practice.

The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.
