Multilayer thin films composed of dielectric BaCaZrTiO (BCZT) and oxygen-deficient BCZT (BCZT-OD) were fabricated on (001)-oriented NSTO substrates using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. Unlike conventional approaches to energy storage capacitors, which primarily focus on compositional or structural modifications, this study explored the influence of the layer sequence and periodicity. The interface between the NSTO substrate and the BCZT-OD layer forms a Schottky barrier, resulting in electric field redistribution across the sublayers of the BCZT/BCZT-OD//(1P) thin film.

Exploring the response of leaf anatomical structure to climate warming is helpful for understanding the adaptive mechanisms of trees to climate change. We conducted a warming experiment by transplanting seedlings of from 11 provenances to two common gardens, and examined the response of leaf anatomical structure to climate warming. The results showed that warming significantly increased leaf thickness (T), upper epidermal mesophyll thickness (T), lower epidermal mesophyll thickness (T), endodermal thickness (T), vascular bundle diameter (D), transfer tissue thickness (T), and the percentage of mesophyll thickness to T(P), and significantly decreased the upper epidermal thickness (T) and the percentage of epidermal thickness to T (P).

Inflammatory syndromes, including those caused by infection, are a major cause of hospital admissions among children and are often misdiagnosed because of a lack of advanced molecular diagnostic tools. In this study, we explored the utility of circulating cell-free RNA (cfRNA) in plasma as an analyte for the differential diagnosis and characterization of pediatric inflammatory syndromes. Objective: Mitomycin C (MMC), a DNA-damaging chemotherapeutic, is commonly used clinically for recurrent cervical carcinoma (CC), either alone or in combination. The 2023 wildfire season in Canada was unprecedented in its scale and intensity, spanning from mid-April to late October and across much of the forested regions of Canada. Here, we summarize the main causes and impacts of this exceptional season. The record-breaking total area burned (~15 Mha) can be attributed to several environmental factors that converged early in the season: early snowmelt, multiannual drought conditions in western Canada, and the rapid transition to drought in eastern Canada.

The multiferroic rare-earth-substituted BiFeO_{3} has emerged as a promising candidate to achieve ultralow-energy-dissipation logic or memory devices, but the fundamental details of the switching mechanism involving the electrical, structural, and magnetic degrees of freedom is not fully understood, in particular, in its single-phase form. Here, a first-principles-based computational scheme is used to study Nd-doped BiFeO_{3} as a model system. The structure that yields a reduced P-E hysteresis loop is found to be ferrielectric with modulated octahedral tiltings, and it is shown that both the in-plane and out-of-plane ferromagnetization can be controlled by an applied electric field.
