Perceived Body Size in Relation to 10-Year Weight Change in the Swedish Obese Subjects Intervention Study.

Introduction: Body size underestimation in patients with obesity may be associated with long-term weight increase. In the current report, we analyse changes in body size perception in patients with obesity undergoing either bariatric surgery or usual obesity care, and in subgroups of patients who gain weight or maintain their body weight over 10 years.

Materials And Methods: A total of 2,504 patients with obesity from the prospective, controlled Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) intervention study were included in this report, 1,370 patients underwent bariatric surgery and 1,134 patients were usual care controls.

MRI evaluation of foraminal changes in the cervical spine with assistance of a novel compression device.

Standard supine Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) does not acquire images in a position where most patients with intermittent arm radiculopathy have symptoms. The aim of this study was to test the feasibility of a new compression device and to evaluate image quality and foraminal properties during a Spurling test under MRI acquisition. Ten asymptomatic individuals were included in the study (6 men and 4 women; age range 27 to 55 years).

Clarifying the Adsorption of Triphenylamine on Au(111): Filling the HOMO-LUMO Gap.

In this article, we analyze the electronic structure modifications of triphenylamine (TPA), a well-known electron donor molecule widely used in photovoltaics and optoelectronics, upon deposition on Au(111) at a monolayer coverage. A detailed study was carried out by synchrotron radiation-based photoelectron spectroscopy, near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and ab initio calculations. We detect a new feature in the pre-edge energy region of the N K-edge NEXAFS spectrum that extends over 3 eV, which we assign to transitions involving new electronic states.

Development of a BMI-Assigned Stunkard Scale for the Evaluation of Body Image Perception Based on Data of the SOS Reference Study.

Introduction: Stunkard's figure rating scale is a widely used tool to assess weight status and, more recently, body image perception in people with obesity. However, large population-based studies on Europeans linking this scale's silhouettes with measured BMI values are lacking. Therefore, we used measured weight and height data from the Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) reference cohort to assign a mean BMI to each of the 9 Stunkard Scale silhouettes and to define silhouette cutoff values for categorizing people with obesity and overweight.

Adiponectin Associates with Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk in Overweight and Obesity Independently of Other Adipokines.

We recently reported that increased serum adiponectin was associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) risk in subjects with obesity. We hereby aim to determine if other adipokines associate with RA risk and if the association between adiponectin and RA is independent of other adipokines. Two nested-case control studies were performed in two different cohorts: 82 participants of the Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study who developed RA during follow-up matched with 410 controls, and 88 matched pairs from the Medical Biobank of Northern Sweden.

Life Expectancy after Bariatric Surgery in the Swedish Obese Subjects Study.

Methods: We used the Gompertz proportional hazards regression model to compare mortality and life expectancy among patients treated with either bariatric surgery (surgery group) or usual obesity care (control group) in the prospective, controlled Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study and participants in the SOS reference study (reference cohort), a random sample from the general population.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of underweight (UW), overweight (OW), and obesity in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Methods: An international cross-sectional study including 23 026 T1D children (2-18 years, duration of diabetes ≥1 year) participating in the SWEET prospective, multicenter diabetes registry. Body mass index SD score (BMI-SDS) was calculated using the World Health Organization BMI charts.

Effect of methacholine on acid and pepsin responses to pentagastrin in cats with innervated and denervated fundic pouches.

The effect of threshold dose of methacholine on gastric secretion stimulated by pentagastrin (PG) was studied in two groups of cats, four with Pavlov pouches (PP) and four with Heidenhain pouches (HP). In the PP group methacholine did not alter the maximal response (MR) and the dose producing half of the maximal response (D50) for PG. In the HP group the highest acid response to PG combined with methacholine was greater than the MR to PG alone.
