This case report describes a patient with a medical history of schizophrenia, found in a coma with hyperthermia, likely due to classic heatstroke. The white blood cells observed on the blood smear showed cytological abnormalities characterized by multilobed nuclei, which could be early signs of cell death. The evolution into multiorgan failure led rapidly to death.

Background: In 2018, the French "Yellow Vest" social protest movement spread with weekly demonstrations resulting in confrontations between protesters and law enforcement. Non-lethal weapons, such as defensive bullet launchers (DBL) were used, and significant injuries have been reported through media, leading to public controversy regarding their use. These injuries are not well-known to civilian emergency physicians.

Background: The decision for withholding and withdrawing of life-sustaining treatments (LSTs) in COVID-19 patients is currently based on a collegial and mainly clinical assessment. In the context of a global pandemic and overwhelmed health system, the question of LST decision support for COVID-19 patients using prognostic biomarkers arises.

Vaccine discovery and vaccination against preventable diseases are one of most important achievements of the human race. While medical, scientific & technological advancements have kept in pace and found their way into treatment options for a vast majority of diseases, vaccines as a prevention tool in the public health realm are found languishing in the gap between such innovations and their easy availability/accessibility to vulnerable populations.
