Introduction: The effect of mechanoreflex on central blood pressure (BP) is unclear, although the influence of metaboreflex has been investigated. A relatively small contribution of the mechanoreflex to the pressor response to exercise has been considered in humans because many studies have failed to isolate the mechanoreflex-mediated pressor response. In a recent study, we successfully isolated a mechanoreflex-mediated pressor response using static passive stretching (SPS) in the forearm.

Introduction: Clinical medicine is becoming more complex and increasingly requires a team-based approach to deliver healthcare needs. This dispersion of cognitive reasoning across individuals, teams and systems (termed "distributed cognition") means that our understanding of cognitive biases and errors must expand beyond traditional "in-the-head" individual mental models and focus on a broader "out-in-the-world" context instead. To our knowledge, no qualitative studies thus far have examined cognitive biases in clinical settings from a team-based sociocultural perspective.

Compaction of sustained release coated pellets into multi-unit pellet system (MUPS) tablets has been associated with damage to the functional polymer layer, leading to a loss in desired sustained release function. Many filler materials and complex processes have been studied on their ability to mitigate compaction-induced pellet coat damage. Among these, native or unprocessed starches included in the filler material have not been explored well despite being a simple strategy.

Background: Chest compressions are life-saving in cardiac arrest but concern by layperson of causing unintentional injury to patients who are not in cardiac arrest may limit provision and therefore delay initiation when required.

Aim: To perform a systematic review of the evidence to identify if; among patients not in cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, does provision of chest compressions from a layperson, compared to no use of chest compressions, worsen outcomes.

Method: We searched Medline (Ovid), Web of Science Core Collection (clarivate) and Cinahl (Ebsco).

  • This study investigated the relationship between mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN), metabolic disorders, and NDDs using a statistical method called Mendelian randomization.
  • Findings indicated that lower mtDNA-CN may increase the risk of ASD through its association with disordered lipoprotein metabolism, suggesting that targeting mtDNA-CN could be a strategy for preventing and treating these disorders, although further clinical trials are needed for validation.
