Article Synopsis
  • Brugada syndrome (BrS) is linked to dangerous heart rhythms called ventricular fibrillation (VF), and this study explores VF mapping using ECG imaging to understand the relationship between different VF mechanisms.* -
  • The researchers focused on patients diagnosed with BrS who experienced VF during a specific heart procedure, analyzing various heart rhythm maps to identify spatial correlations between repolarization gradients and VF triggers.* -
  • Results showed that most BrS patients had distinct "repolarization cliffs" that initiated VF, suggesting these cliffs could be important targets for treatment to prevent VF recurrence.*

The status of oral health research in the World Health Organization (WHO) African region is unclear, yet the need for such information is central to moving an oral health agenda forward. Such an agenda is essential for effectively translating research into actionable practices and supporting regional strategies. The aim of this scoping review was to provide data on the scope and output of oral health research in the WHO African region to be used as a starting point for establishing a research agenda that can affect oral health in the region.

Although woodpeckers are known to forage in decaying trees, their contribution to internal wood decay is not well known. In this sense, non-destructive techniques for structural wood degradation provide an opportunity to quantitatively assess the role of woodpeckers in tree decay. We used sonic tomography to test that the trunks of living trees pecked by Magellanic woodpeckers show pronounced decay, which accelerates under environmental conditions favorable to wood-decaying fungi.

Power flow (PF) analysis is a foundational computational method to study the flow of power in an electrical network. This analysis involves solving a set of non-linear and non-convex differential-algebraic equations. State-of-the-art solvers for PF analysis, therefore, face challenges with scalability and convergence, specifically for large-scale and/or ill-conditioned cases characterized by high penetration of renewable energy sources, among others.
