Interactions between aromatic side chains of amino acids stabilize the fold and assembly of short peptides. The aromatic π…π and C-H…π interactions have been widely explored in the design of short peptides with specific folding and aggregation patterns. In the present study, we investigated the effect of homologated phenylalanine side chains on the conformation and assembly of peptide helices through X-ray crystallographic structure determination and analysis of five pentapeptides.

Present study aimed at a single component cyclization of 2-benzylidene-1-tetralones for the preparation of 5H-benzo[c]fluorenes and their antiproliferative activity. This ring closure reaction underwent via reductive cyclization in the presence of a sodium borohydride-aluminium chloride system. Ten diverse 5H-benzo[c]fluorene derivatives were prepared and evaluated for antiproliferative activity against three human cancer cell lines by SRB assay.

Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is the most common special type of invasive breast cancer (IBC), accounting for 5-15% of IBCs. The distinct histomorphology of ILC reflects a special tumor biology, the hallmark of which is the lack of E-cadherin expression. However, the occasional presence of E-cadherin expression and the presence of IBC of no special type (IBC, NST)-like morphologies in ILC and vice versa make the diagnosis challenging.

The possibility of introducing various functionalities on peptides with relative ease allows them to be used for molecular applications. However, oligopeptides prepared entirely from proteinogenic amino acids seldom assemble as ordered structures on surfaces. Therefore, sidechain modifications of peptides that can increase the intermolecular interactions without altering the constitution of a given peptide become an attractive route to self-assembling them on surfaces.

Receptors are proteinous macromolecules which remain in the apo form under normal/unliganded conditions.
