In the second part of this study the effect of age, sex, body size, body weight and timing of the manometric examination (morning vs. noon) on esophageal pressure measurement was investigated in a total of 119 healthy subjects, using an electromagnetic microtransducer. Additionally intraindividual variation of pressures was studied over a period of 6 months.

A new electronic transducer system has been developed for intraluminal pressure studies in the gastrointestinal tract. In contrast to other devices, inductance was used for the transformation of pressure into electrical signals. High sensitivity with a frequency response of 10(4) Hz guarantees accurate recording of sphincter as well as of peristaltic pressures.
