Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the digestive tract. Inherent overexpression of receptor tyrosine kinase KIT (CD117) and mutations in c-Kit or PDGFRA genes are highly significant prognosticators.
