Culex species, such as Culex quinquefasciatus and Culex nigripalpus display a range of feeding habits and act as vectors for pathogens that can cause diseases in both humans and animals. Understanding their feeding habits is pivotal for enhancing disease prevention strategies. The present study introduces the application of two multiplex real-time PCR (qPCR) followed by high-resolution melting (HRM) as a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative.

Equine Piroplasmosis (EP) and Equine Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (EGA) are diseases that affect horses, transmitted by ixodid ticks, causing a nonspecific febrile syndrome. Equine Piroplasmosis is endemic in Brazil, and most horses are in enzootic stability. Serological and molecular studies carried out on horses in Brazil have shown the presence of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, however, the clinical relevance of this infection has not yet been established.

Large Deviation Full Counting Statistics in Adiabatic Open Quantum Dynamics.

The state of an open quantum system undergoing an adiabatic process evolves by following the instantaneous stationary state of its time-dependent generator. This observation allows one to characterize, for a generic adiabatic evolution, the average dynamics of the open system. However, information about fluctuations of dynamical observables, such as the number of photons emitted or the time-integrated stochastic entropy production in single experimental runs, requires controlling the whole spectrum of the generator and not only the stationary state.

Molecular diversity and polyparasitism of avian trypanosomes in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest.

The current study proposes to investigate the diversity and phylogeny of trypanosomes parasitizing wild birds from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Cytological examination was carried out by light microscopy of blood smears and positive birds were selected for amplification of the 18S rDNA sequence through PCR. The resulting amplicons were subjected to purification, cloning, and sequencing analysis.
