The jumping of crystals in the presence of external stimuli such as temperature, light, and mechanical forces is observed due to the release of accumulated strain in the crystal. Thermosalience in molecular crystals is generally induced by anisotropic thermal expansion accompanied by phase transformation. However, a thermosalient effect has not been observed in the same crystal at two different temperature zones caused by two distinct mechanisms.

Synergetic combination therapy is emerging as one of the most promising approaches for cancer treatment. Among the various therapeutic approaches, PDT has received particular attention due to its non-invasive nature. However, the therapeutic performance of PDT is severely affected by tumour hypoxia.

Article Synopsis
  • - Oncology and critical care patients are at a higher risk for central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and thrombotic occlusions due to the use of central vascular access devices (CVADs), with CLABSIs increasing by 63% during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • - A quality improvement project introduced 4% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as an antimicrobial locking solution, leading to a significant decrease in CLABSIs from 36 cases in 16 months to 6 cases in 6 months (a 59% reduction).
  • - Though the study showed promising results in reducing CLABSIs, it found no significant improvement in occlusions, and further research

The therapeutic outcome of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is greatly hindered by the presence of oxidative damage repair proteins (MTH1) inside cancer cells. These oxidative damage repair proteins detoxify the action of radicals generated by Fenton or Fenton-like reactions. Hence, it is extremely important to develop a simple strategy for the downregulation of MTH1 protein inside cancer cells along with the delivery of metal ions into cancer cells.
