Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic virus that infects humans when virus-containing pork products are consumed. This study aimed to explore MNV (murine norovirus) and HEV inactivation during cold smoking and ripening/fermentation treatments used for salami-like sausages (mettwurst). MNV inactivation was monitored in culture medium solution and in sausage while being subjected to a salami-like sausage manufacturing process.

While directly comparable toxicological data are unavailable, this pilot study used published toxicological endpoints for neurological damage to weigh the relative importance of cadmium, lead, arsenic, mercury, nickel, and aluminum in the mixture Finnish adults receive from their daily diet. In addition, the effects of a selection of these chemicals on cognition, kidney tubular damage, and fertility were assessed using the toxicological endpoints available in the Chemical Mixture Calculator developed by the Technical University of Denmark. Consumption data from the FinDiet 2012 national survey of 25 to 74-year-olds and occurrence data mainly obtained in national monitoring were used to estimate the cumulative dietary exposure, which was found to be so high that the possibility of neurological damage or kidney effects cannot be ruled out for most of the population, particularly fertile age women.

Instrumentation, automation and control in municipal wastewater treatment can result in large resource, cost and energy savings. Feedforward and feedback control algorithms were implemented together with turbidity and phosphorus analysers to control the chemical dose at the tertiary stage of the Nenäinniemi wastewater treatment plant, consisting of coagulation, flocculation and microsieve filtration. This optimization lowered the coagulant dose by 70% and the polymer dose by 36% compared to manual adjustments of the chemical dosing.

Aim: Teaching is known as a high-stress occupation. Managing fatigue and promoting work engagement, teachers' expectations and perceptions can impact work-related stress-recovery-balance and physical activity levels. The main objective of the current study was to investigate the relationship between intrinsic motivational factors and the autonomic nervous system, such as heart rate and heart rate variability regulation, sleep, and physical activity levels.

Burnout is becoming a global pandemic jeopardizing brain health, with a huge impact on quality of life, available workforce, and the economy. Knowledge of the impact of burnout on cognition, physiology, and physical activity (PA) in daily life allows for an improved understanding of the health consequences and everyday ramifications of burnout. Twenty-eight volunteers participated in a three-day recording of daily physiology and PA, including heart rate (HR) and daily steps, with a wearable device.
