Iris Avulsion During Corneal Wound Hydration After Uneventful Cataract Extraction.

We report a case of spontaneous total iris avulsion that occurred during corneal wound hydration following an uneventful phacoemulsification procedure. An 86-year-old woman underwent cataract surgery on her right eye, during which a single-piece acrylic intraocular lens (Bausch and Lomb Akreos Adapt Advanced Optics, Bausch and Lomb Incorporated, Rochester, NY, USA) was implanted in the bag, and the viscoelastic material was removed. During corneal wound hydration, total iris avulsion was observed, with the iris prolapsing out of the anterior chamber through the main wound.

Understanding the Magnetic Microstructure through Experiments and Machine Learning Algorithms.

Advanced machine learning techniques have unfurled their applications in various interdisciplinary areas of research and development. This paper highlights the use of image regression algorithms based on advanced neural networks to understand the magnetic properties directly from the magnetic microstructure. In this study, Co/Pd multilayers have been chosen as a reference material system that displays maze-like magnetic domains in pristine conditions.

Spectroscopic studies of Dy ion doped tellurite glasses for solid state lasers and white LEDs.

Rare earth ion Dy-doped tellurite glasses were synthesised in the system of (75-x)TeO-15SbO-10WO-xDyO (TSWD glasses). XRD and FTIR characterizations were used to find the crystalline and structural properties. The intensities of the electronic transitions and the ligand environment around the Dy ion were determined using the Judd-Ofelt (J-O) theory on the absorption spectra of the glasses.

The Peterborough scheme for community specialist optometrists in glaucoma: results of 4 years of a two-tiered community-based assessment and follow-up service.

Aims: To report on results of an innovative glaucoma shared-care scheme based in Peterborough, UK.

Methods: A retrospective review of all new appointments with 11 community-based specialist optometrists in glaucoma (SOG) was conducted. There are two tiers of SOG, whereby tier 2 SOGs have increased levels of autonomy.

The Peterborough scheme for community specialist optometrists in glaucoma: a feasibility study.

Purpose: This study assessed the role of specialist optometrists who were working in the community and sharing the care for glaucoma patients with, and under close supervision of, a consultant ophthalmologist working in the Hospital Eye Services (HES) to ensure high-quality standards, safety, and care.

Methods: From February 2005 onwards, the majority of all new glaucoma referrals to our eye department were diverted to our specialist optometrists in glaucoma (SOGs) in their own community practices. Selected patients in the HES setting who were already diagnosed with stable glaucoma were also transferred to the SOGs.
