Diarrhoeal diseases are the second leading cause of death for children under 5 years old in 69 low- and middle-income countries, with an annual economic burden of US$ 4 billion and over 525,000 lives lost. Cholera and enterotoxigenic (ETEC) traveller's diarrhoea are major diarrhoeal diseases caused by (O1 and O139 serogroups) and ETEC, which have similar pathogeneses and can co-infect. There is no exclusive vaccine for ETEC, but cholera vaccines containing the cholera toxin B (CT-B) component offer short-term cross-protection.

The major challenges in enhancing the cycle life of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are polysulfide (PS) shuttling and sluggish reaction kinetics (S to LiS, LiS to S). To alleviate the above issues, the use of heteroatom-doped carbon as a cathode host matrix is a low-cost and efficient approach, as it works as a dual-functional framework for PS anchoring as well as an electrocatalyst for faster redox kinetics. Here, the dual role of heteroatom-doped carbon sheets (CS) in the chemisorption of LiS and catalysis of its faster conversion to LiS is established.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, affecting around 500,000 to 1 million Americans, with a significant portion diagnosed before age 50. Despite advances in treatments such as dopamine replacement therapy and deep brain stimulation, no therapies currently exist to halt or slow disease progression in advanced stages. Research is increasingly focused on identifying early biomarkers for PD to enable earlier intervention.

CelTOS is a malaria vaccine antigen that is conserved in Plasmodium and other apicomplexan parasites and plays a role in cell-traversal. The structural basis and mechanisms of CelTOS-induced protective immunity to parasites are unknown. Here, CelTOS-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) 7g7 and 4h12 demonstrated multistage activity, protecting against liver infection and preventing parasite transmission to mosquitoes.

The multifunctional RNA-binding protein hnRNPL is implicated in antibody class switching but its broader function in B cells is unknown. Here, we show that hnRNPL is essential for B cell activation, germinal center formation, and antibody responses. Upon activation, hnRNPL-deficient B cells show proliferation defects and increased apoptosis.
