Direct effects of endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS]) on equine WBC are known to stimulate the release of a variety of mediators including thromboxane, prostacyclin, and leukotrienes. In this study, 0.1 microgram of LPS/ml stimulated an early increase in tumor necrosis factor, succeeded by an increase in interleukin-1, but concentrations of LPS up to 5.

A comparative study of proteoglycans from bovine lung, trachea, tracheal mucosa, and aorta.

Proteoglycans were isolated from bovine lung, trachea, tracheal mucosa, and aorta by dissociative extraction with 4M guanidinium hydrochloride. Fractionation of these tissue extracts by cesium chloride density centrifugation and gel chromatography allowed the isolation from each extract of a high molecular weight fraction consisting mainly of proteochondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid.

Connective tissue composition of aortas from non-human primates. A comparative study.

Connective tissue composition of aortas from several non-human primate species has been studied in an effort to relate collagen, elastin, ang glycosaminoglycan (GAG) content to species susceptibility to atherosclerosis. Among the species studied the baboon contained the highest content of GAG in the aorta. While the distribution of individual GAG varied from species to species, heparan sulfate (HS) was the highest GAG in aortas from most of the species.

Glycosaminoglycans from Ateroid and bovine duodenal mucosa and pancreas.

Glycosaminoglycans (GG) were isolated from commercial Ateroid and compared with those from bovine duodenal mucosa and pancreas. The major GG in Ateroid is heparin. Heparan sulfate (HS) and dermatan sulfate were also found.
