High on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) with clopidogrel predicts ischemic events in adults with coronary artery disease, and while HTPR varies by ethnicity, no genome-wide association study (GWAS) of clopidogrel response has been conducted in Caribbean Hispanics. This study aimed to identify genetic predictors of HTPR in a cohort of 511 Puerto Rican cardiovascular patients treated with clopidogrel, stratified by P2Y12 reaction units (PRU) into responders and non-responders (HTPR). Local ancestry inference (LAI) and traditional GWAS identified variants in the CYP2C19 region associated with HTPR, primarily in individuals with European ancestry.

Chromatin organization regulates transcription to influence cellular plasticity and cell fate. We explored whether chromatin nanoscale packing domains are involved in stemness and response to chemotherapy. Using an optical spectroscopic nanosensing technology we show that ovarian cancer-derived cancer stem cells (CSCs) display upregulation of nanoscale chromatin packing domains compared to non-CSCs.

Modern medicine has recognized organ and tissue transplantation as one of the most outstanding and promising advances. However, the demand for tissues and organs to be transplanted far exceeds the available supply. Due to this growing need, the problems inherent to the transplantation process have been pointed out in recent years.

Herpesviruses are enveloped viruses with large double-stranded DNA genomes that are highly prevalent in the human population and elicit numerous types of clinical manifestations, from mild to severe. These viruses are classified into three subfamilies: -, -, and , all capable of establishing life-long persistent infections in the host. As strict intracellular parasites, these viruses have evolved molecular determinants to support and modulate viral and host gene transcription processes during infection and the translation of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) to synthesize proteins that participate in cellular pathways promoting their replication cycles and virion formation.

Background: Survivors of critical illness endure long-lasting physical and mental challenges. Despite the persistence of poor sleep quality in a considerable proportion of patients at the 12-month follow-up, studies with assessments exceeding this period are limited. We aimed to investigate the trajectory of sleep over the 24 months following critical illness.
